thats only a specific age range, and 'tried' might mean more than a single pill.

how about all the 24+ year olds ....

I'd say that was a very accurate figure.

Apparently there has been an experiment done where one group of people was given speed, and another not given anything, but subjected to the same physical conditions, ie not sleeping or eating. Both groups were given questionnaires on their mental states afterwards. The subjects from both groups gave similar responses.

Please don't ask me to quote where that was done, as I don't know. I was, however, told about it by someone who doesn't take drugs, so had no vested interest.

that is one of the only things said in this thread that is true.

most research into MDMA use at this stage say things like "may cause xxx" as not enough conclusive research has been done into the area.

no-one can say MDMA (ab)use causes a b or c, but it can be argued that it may cause, or be a factor in causing a b or c.

Using an earlier BCS it states 15% 16-29 years olds have tried, 5% in the last year, 3% in the last month.

it doesnt add up - with 16-24/9 being the largest demographic that consume pills, we have a population of 59,000,000, I guess 20% of which fit into our demographic.... 11,800,000.... 3% of that is 354,000

It doesnt add up even if my numbers are out slightly :D

how can you know it was the drugs he took that made him that way not a possible mental condition/instability?

how many people are there out there who are just as fucked up, or even moreso that have never touched drugs in their life?

My figures are from the Observer, 23 oct 2003, and MDMA.org. They list 730 000 people using MDMA. If average consumption was 2 pills per night, that would imply that the average user would go clubbing once every 3 weeks, taking an average dose of about 2 pills. Look at the erowid survey of users, and this is just about spot on.

How many people drop dead of "instant alcohol poisoning"? By which, you mean acute toxicity over about a day? More than die in the same manner from ecstasy - there is a reason why people use alcohol to sterilise surgical implemenets etc - it is a cellular toxin.

The US organisation NHTSA.gov gives 4000 ACUTE alcohol poisoning episodes a year in the US - related to the UK population, that is about 800 deaths a year, assuming the same rate. Note that US drinking laws are much more strict - this figure may be higher. To be the same rate as TOTAL ecstasy deaths, assuming 750 000 users and 20 deaths a year, the number of alcohol users in the UK would need to be about (40 x 750 000) = 30 million users. Take away heatstroke and hyponatraemic deaths from MDMA, and you are looking at higher use fatality with alcohol than MDMA.

Second - MDMA [edit]probably[/edit]damages metabolically, and so can be protected against. Alcohol is actually cellular toxin and will attack and kill any cells in the body, in the right dose.

Yes, it is comparing apples and oranges with the long term effects, but I think it's fair to say that alcohol has an established and proven long term cost both to individuals and society that is massively greater than that of MDMA. Whether this is due to usage differences, I am not in a position to judge.

Get yer facts straight and have another crack, son ;)

I'm not sure how true that is! You are also not counting the amount of people that have more than one, which is probably the majority. The statistic given was 500,000 pills, not people taking them.

What Phil Cogan does is up to Phil Cogan, I have merely expressed my feelings to him as a mate.

If he's giving you crap it's because along with many other people on here, he thinks you should perhaps think a little harder before you type, a point proved by the fact you go back and delete a lot of what you post. Haven't you noticed how people have started quoting you so your 'wisdom' is preserved for the world to see?

I just think you have a slightly unhealthy obsession with me and who gets my goodies
