People dont like to believe they are involved in anything bad, or that the people put in charge of them could possibly do them any wrong - a by product of the 'idea' that we live in a democracy. It doesnt make sense that you could actively vote FOR people against your best interests.

it's quite convenient to say things are all down to big corporations and shadow groups as it takes all responsibility off the individual with the "how can I do anything about it, they control everything" argument

if the conspiracy theory brigade really believe in what they publish they should quit their jobs start a political party get themselves elected and change the system from within

what always annoys me with conspiracy theories is that they show what is apparently wrong but don't suggest a solution

to be honest some of them probably are true but it's human nature, we're animals and by looking at game theory in relation to animal behaviour coupled with selfish genes you can see that in any situation some people given a position of power will exploit that power to their own advantage

If we all believed in the government line, then 95% of us wouldnt be on this board in the first place ... being an underground clubbing scene based chat forum. A scene which is riddled with the kind of activities that the official line would have you believe is going to kill you and wreck your lives, and your loved ones.

so what would you suggest as an alternative?

therefore 95% of us don't believe in the government line so we don't need conspiracy theorists to save us, we have free will, they don't control us after all, yay!

I haven't got one. Which is why I still turn out and do it even though I know it won't make a difference.
oh and I blab off on internet forums which will obviously make a big difference too.
The present parties are all trying to be on the 'middle ground' which in practice means wherever the Daily Mail is at any particular point.

I agree with you about most conspiracy theories being comfort blankets in very complex world. And that people 'given' power will abuse it. I just don't know how any of us can do anything about it.
People who manage to change even the tiniest thing usually have to totally give their lives over to it and most of us would really rather just go down the pub and moan

There is always an alternative - revolution.

The only problem with said alternative is that it relies on people getting pissed off enough to do something about it... This is the age of indifference so I can't see it happening.
