Jesus Christ, to say Kevin Phillips had one good season when he was at Sunderland is a bit like saying Alan Shearer has been a big disapointment since he went to Newcastle  how little you know about football is fucking frightening.

I could list about 15 premiership strikers who will never have one season like that, infact i doubt Shola Amanobody will score 30 premiership goals in his whole premiership career.

His move to soton hasn't proved to be that good and when quinny left he wasn't the same! But for 4/5 seasons (regardless what division) he ALWAYS came up with the goods!! He done a hell of alot more than score goals! But in my eyes scoring 35+ goals in Div.1 then 30+ in the premiership the following season is FUCKING quality! even when he wasn't scoring he was setting them up! I'd had a season ticket for s/land until i moved to Cran Canaria 2yrs ago, i watched him week in week out. By far s/lands best player since i've been going. Anyone who scores 30 goals in the premiership MUST be a good player!

You cannot judge him on his England performances, he started about two and the other ones he came on for maybe 10-20 minutes so he was not exactly given a fair crack of the whip was he. I would love to take him back as he is proven premiership quality anybody who has scored 30 goals in one premiership season is a class act, as for this one season bollocks in another premiership season iam sure he scored 15+ goals and was out injured for over 3 months.

He started 4 & came on as sub 4 times.

As a rule I dont listen to Sunderland fans when they talk about players, due to many of them singing songs or ringing in radio stations claiming the likes of Richard Ord,Jody Craddock,Mickey Gray, Gavin McCann,Gabbers etc should all play for England. But the FACT is Kevin Phillips was the best player Sunderland have had in the last 20 years (IF NOT LONGER) & for a spell was one of the best strikers in Britain.

Spot on, he is certainly the best player i have had the pleasure of watching in the red and white stripes, there is not many Sunderland players that will be talked about after iam dead but Kevin Phillips is certainly one of them. LEGEND

yeah he was awesome im not denying that fact but he has lost the plot he has not played well for a few seasons and if sunderland wanna stay up if they get promted he would be a bad choice imo

Agreed! As far as SOME our fans go your spot on too. I like to think of myself as an HONEST mackem though! i can listen to critisism without biting back. But its the same with most clubs. eg Talking to a friend who supports DA TOON, as soon as i make a comment he says "at least we're in the premiership" .

Mr Phillips is the only sunderland player who deseverd to play for england at least since i've been watching them, Gavin Mcann maybe's! Micky Gray was/is shit and only got a call up because England were playing a friendly against Belgium at the SOL and keegan wanted players from local teams in the squad. Craddock good few season....thats all! The only good thing about Dickie Ord was the chant "WHO NEEDS CANTONA WHEN WE'VE GOT DICKIE ORD"

Agreed but look other strikers who haven't cut the mustard or been given a real chance for their country.

It becomes boring when your looking for insight into your local rivals & it ends in another herd all before arguement, it why a lot of football fans dont use the sports fourm.

But it is good to rip into the Mackems every now & again to keeps ya in check:p
