i remember when i was younger i never used to pay and then i was at jesmond walked down there was inspectors at the platform and then the metro pulled in and there was loads of inspectors on the metro just stayed on the platform and after the metro left the inspectors on the platform blocked me in and asked me for my ticket pretended to have a quick look in me bag and then ran in between them - im scared to skip it now haha

it works out cheaper if you don't pay and then pay a fine if you use it a fair bit.

Do they just wait for suspicious looking people to sneak off the metro or do they still come around asking to see your ticket? I was on the last metro to Shields once and they got on but they never checked for my ticket since i was one of the only people who didn't get up and try to leg it. I felt pretty lucky.

Yeah in shields luckily there is always a bunch of charvers getting off at the same time.

Ive had that, where they just target the ones who are obviously dodgers, and us good citizens get to stroll on by with a look of innocence on our thieving faces! :D

I get the metro every day and only pay every now and then if i cant be arsed with the schitz on the train. Ive been caught 4 times, once when it was 20 quid for a fine. 50 quid in total isnt bad considering i must literally owe them hundreds. I realise this makes me a massive tramp but i dont care. Ive saved so much money over the years :cool2:

If you explain at the time that you have a pass but have forgotten it, you can avoid paying any fine if you leter on prove that you have a pass (obviously covering the date you were 'caught'). I doubt they'll make you pay if you show them your pass.

There used to be passes where you scratched off the day of your travel like a scratch card.

but after a while they realised that you could buy one... not scratch it off....

then when someone was checking tickets.

Bam, scratch it off, and only then has it actually cost you something :)

the fare dodgers are breaking the law so technically can the ticket inspectors not carry out a citizens arrest using reasonable force?

i dont understand why they dont have a barrier system like the undergrounnd.

Iv'e been in a similar situation with Metro/Nexus which proved to be a nightmare.
I had lost my Metro pass which was for the month so went to get it replaced, thinking that a company as big as Metro/Nexus would hold some sort of records of purchased passes or it's customers who had bought them as I had to give personal details when buying it.
I went to the Travel shop in Monument where I purchased it to find they dont keep any sort of records who has bought passes either cash or by card?
The hold no back up or system for customers who have lost/misplaced passes that need them replaced. I was informed that only the yearly passes are insured if lost/misplaced.
So they have no records as to how many passes they have sold from month to month, or week to week, no indication on how much money has went through the books from pass sales or no customer base details etc...

In the end I was fukd, had to buy another pass as they had no records or proof that I had purchased one at the date I was stating - rediculous.

    Lesson learned:mad:
