The guy who died was clearly being a dickhead though, he was walking as slow as he possibly could to obstruct the police.

pushing him over like that was OTT, but the bloke was being a pleb.

If a man is walking slowly and disobeying police orders, I'd hope he got hit with a baton and pushed over too. Deserved all the heart attacks he got. No room for bad apples in my empire, civil resister.

One of these days it might be one of your own friends or family who is 'accidentally' bumped off by these stazi fuckers.

Remember, we set up the Police to PROTECT US.... PROTECT US!!!!!!!!!!!!! And now people are getting apathetical about the ones who kill us.

So fucking what if someone is walking slowly to piss the police off - does that mean you deserve to die??!?!?

The police in this country are like a tommy cooper sketch.

The officer who pushed him over blatently turned straight to his mate:

    "Just like that".

If we set them up to PROTECT, maybe they need some RESPECT ?

Now that the police have covered every square inch of the country in CCTV why did it take a man and a camcorder to expose what happened here?

Who watches the watchers and all that.

Whether theres been violent protests or not you dont go doing that to some random bloke. What sort of world do you live in? How was he not meant to be there? If he was getting in the way the police should of moved him out the way ie by grabbing hold of him and moving him.

So we should run from them, instead of walking slowly away from them? Is that respect or fear?

If anything he was probably trying to make a point about not wanting or feeling like he should be herded about by 'law enforcement' like an animal.

just what exactly was this bunch of people doing to warrant having the police hit them with batons and force them into pens?

If you dont let people protest or assemble properly, then we are no better than being in the societies that we (well, the government) say we need protection FROM and need to invade. The way the police were acting on that day was like bringing a shotgun to a conker fight, with a bunch of thugs doing nothing more than beating up their OWN people .... their OWN!!!

I suppose 'democracy' in this country amounts to nothing more than an illusion that we actually have a fucking choice once every four years, when in actual fact the same bunch of people get in regardless of their blue, red or yellow logo's.

.... They dont WANT us to protest any more, and they are doing as much as possible to stop it - hence the heavy handed tactics.

Funnily enough, the one bank that WASNT boarded up that day was RBS .... Fancy that!

Gonna say, surely if he started running away from them then he'd look like was upto something, they'd of probably set the hounds onto him. Poor sod couldn't win either way!

The bloke looked as though he was being a pleb but that doesnt justify what happened one bit. If any member of the public did this to him he'd be down for a manslaughter charge. One of the officers should have made it very clear to the bloke and moved him out of the way, but instead some jumped up wanker approached him from behind and used EXCESSIVE force.

Fuck the police and fuck the system.

The police have created 'Carte Blanche' with all the new terroism laws passed since 9/11... which is also a perfect example of imperialism. No such thing as a protest these days or opposing a Government decision without being fined heavily, imprisioned or (in certain cases) killed.

Whilst I respect the Police have a MAMMOTH job on their hands sometimes & are all merely pawns within the 'grand chess board' for polititians, a guy has lost his life here doing nothing more than walking infront of a police line in the middle of a protest, he was not armed, he was not agressive, he posed no threat to the public or police... yet got struck to the floor with a baton?

Despite all the shit in this thread, I find it really scary, when will they stop or what will they stop at?
E.g: I always get caught up in being pushed back into the crowd after derby games up in the town, im not a football hooligan nor intend to cause trouble, im just caught up in the crowd trying to leave the ground... does that mean I deserve to be struck down or worst case scenario killed?

as I understand it the guy was not too bright anyway and was trying to walk home from his job selling newspapers. he had already been turned back from his normal route home and was trying another way when this thug smashed him on the back of the legs with a baton then shoved him to the floor where he hit his head. There is no excuse for doing this to an innocent civilian going about his normal business. Doesn't matter what provocation the police had faced previously. They are trained to keep their cool. If they can't do that then we either need different laws or different police.

I'm amazed that people seem to think the whole police force is corrupted due to the odd incident now and then.

    No it's not.

How often has someone been killed by the police due to negligence/brutality that wasn't warranted?

Compare this to the job that 99.9% of the rest of the police force do on a regular basis and then tell me again that this kind of incident doesn't happen on the 'odd occasion'.

Like I said, I don't agree with it, but as the bloke who died was clearly showing in the video, not everyone has enough respect for the police when for example, they've just been getting battered by mobs of people and are there out of their own free will trying to keep the peace. The way I see it, he was dragging his feet along the floor and had his hands in his pockets as if to show the police he would do whatever he likes and add to the frustration they were all feeling at the time. It doesn't mean that the push was an appropriate thing to do, at all, but situations like this make it a very difficult job to do but the vast majority of the force does an excellent job imo.

we're supposed to be able to do what we like within the law. It's called freedom. We invade places to bring it to them.

And explain why this should even happen on the 'odd occasion' ?

I do see your point, however switch scenarios for a second & now imagine everytime one of these 'odd occasions' (as you put it) happened that it was a Police officer being killed, the UK would be turned on it's head, new laws would be sanctioned & christ knows what else to imperialise the fish bowl we currently live in.

Lest we forget here, this was a protest not a riot. It was the police who turned out in body armour, batons & CS Gas, not the Public. The only thing I seen which remotely got out of hand was a RBS window being smashed, therefore the Police had every right to step in to calm things down, but they didn't, it resulted in a guy who had his hands in his pockets with his back to the police line loosing his life.

Im with you in the sense that Police are up against so much sometimes but im sorry no matter how people spin this theres simply no justification to whats happened here.

And I've never once said this incident was justified. There are several people in this thread who've said that the whole police force is fucked up.. using rare occurrences like this as an example. There's always gonna be the odd shit head in every position of authority. Including the Police. This is unavoidable no matter what precautions or actions are taken. It doesn't mean the whole police force should be tarnished because of it though. It's pretty much the same as saying all Muslims are terrorists and something needs to be done about them being in our country.

Protests have turned into riots in the past so police need to be ready to deal with it.. it would be stupid for them to turn up in standard clothing considering their reasons for being there.

Also, Forks.. stop with the freedom thing. We are more free with a police force protecting us than we would be if we relied on everyone within communities just 'getting along'. Freedom doesn't mean everyone has to take your shit.
