have you tried benchmarking the CPu and seeing how fast it runs in comparison to a standard CPU of the same speed?

how old is the machine? if it's under a year it's still covered under UK law so fujitsu are legally required to change it.

Nah mate its 2 years old this September :(

Even if it was within warranty i would have nulled it anyhow as i have taken the back off (it had a clip that said 'if this seal is broken then your warranty is invalid)

Take it a step at a time.
Try some new thermal paste first and see how it runs.

Marc, ill do it for ya on sat if ya like, its only a couple of quid for paste. I cant believe yer theory was right about it overheating like.

according to that fuji website - it's a common fault.

try taking the fan and heatsink off, clean it out, new paste then try it.

Try some AS5 on the chip..
Buy an Arctic Coller pro hsf..
Install both intake and exhaust fans (2 of each if possible).

Tbh.. I've not had that much experience with p4's but from the sounds of it the chip might be a LGA775, if not then it will be a socket 478 chip.

    Was that intended??

Go for a ys tech or panflow fan if possible.. their CFM is greater but they are loud!

Also if possible try and fit a 120mm fan.. if not stick in 2 80mm..

He was right to an extent but dropping my fan, cpu and heatsink in the bath would not have been a good idea ;)
