Get an iPhone, they are mint

You can't do them justice in words, you just have to use one to get how much better they are than anything out there.

    Rob,

Did you got yours from the states mate? If so, what did you do about unlocking it? Not worried about Apple updates knacking it?

My mam is off to New York soon so I may be tempted to get one and unlock it at that price.

Yes, I got it off a guy who sells imported ones on ebay. I found it pretty easy to hack it, just followed these instructions...

    http://www.hacktheiphone.com/74/iphone_how_to_software_unlock_windows_74_1.html

The updates will only nack it if I choose to install them. So far I've stuck with the old firmware because I don't really care about the new features. I may well never bother updating it to be honest.

It's not as easy now with the new firmware as these is no simple way to hack it but it's still possible. If you are unsure I'd wait for it to come out in the UK. It is a risk to try to hack one but I'm glad I took the chance as it's at least a couple of years ahead of anything else I have seen or owned.

    Cheers mate

I am tempted for a sim free one for £200. There is nothing else about really.

Is it as big as it looks when you have it in your hand?

Seems to be plenty of sites out there that appear to be able to unlock them, though may be more difficult with this 1.1.1 update.

There are smaller phones but it's not big enough to put me off at all. It feels really solid in your hand and looks good too.

You can break 1.1.1 phones but it's not easy (yet), I'd wait until there are GUI based jailbreaks/sim free solutions for it personally.

yeah, been reading up on the hacking stuff - it wont take long for a decent solution to come along to the 1.1.1 firmware

£200 danny? thats a pretty good price - fleabay?

The new UK iphones are coming with version 1.1.2...

Really not sure what to do now. My mam is off there on Thursday.

Rob are you confident that if you don't upgrade your version your phone will always be ok?

Just worried if I get the phone from the states which will be 1.1.1 and then I cannot get it working.

If the N95 is anything to go by, you'll want to have the option to update the firmware etc. Nokia have offered improved functionality and extra functions to some services through the official updates. I'd imagine the same will happen with the iPhone once bugs etc have been discovered.

I don't know enough to say if I would buy a 1.1.1 phone, I would have to read up on it a lot more than I have time to.

If you are not sure I'd say give it a miss tbh.

There will be new features I'm sure but it's pretty much bug-less as it stands already.

You can bet that if they bring out something that is compelling enough the hackers will work out a way to update then rehack the handset so they can access that new feature. It's all about motivation, there is nothing in 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 that people (on the whole) really care about having IMHO.
