Is it a 'Dubby' that you use?

Nah, don't worry mate. I'm happy to talk abt it. Like I said I prefer curious people than ignorant people.

    :( Shame.

The even funnier bit is that people could actually see logic in somebody having a laptop at Promise.

    Ok here's my idea.....

Basically you have sensors on each finger on one hand. The sensors pick up the tensing of muscles as you move your fingers (see my really crap drawing).

This is linked to a pocket pc running a voice synth.

You use combinations of finger movements to trigger the voice synth.

A similar principal is used in courtrooms to take down what is being said. The machine is called a stenographer I think.

With combinations of all five fingers it could be possible to say most words you need day to day, I think?

It may also be possible to use a wrist-mounted device to detect the finger movements (as the tendons run up your arm). This would be less visible and less likely to get damaged.

So what do you think, anyone doing D&T at Uni and would know how to get this built?

Drunken twat: 'I bet you can get the footie scores on that and everything, can't ya?'

Me: 'No, I fucking can't. Now fuck off!'

It is funny when I start to freak people out when they ask what it is tho. Sometimes I give the normal answer but sumtimes I just can't resist having a bit of fun. ;)

Wouldn't people then need to learn more or less a whole new "language" though, in order to keep finger movements giving correct words? Then wouldn't there be the problem of slipping, moving, itching, scratching, wrong words, jumbled sentences, apparent dyslexia, etc.

Good idea. Very good idea, but rather flawed, it appears.

Stenographers learn it so it must be possible.

I have no idea if peeps could learn to do the correct finger movements or not (in a real world situation).

Oh, obviously it's be possible, just be a bit of an arse on. Stenographers sit at a desk in a coutroom though. Not exactly active.
