Wouldn't go out my way to see him play but, apart from the cheesy tunes, bad mixing at times and dodgy catchphrases I've never heard comments about him being abusive or a total cock to anybody. In the late 90's he was an institute to most clubbers with his Radio 1 show's and actually played quality tunes that a lot of people on the board named as there all time favourite tracks last month. Out of the Blue, Orange theme etc etc...
Im not the biggest jules fan in the world but i find it amazing how much criticism he recieves when he's been one of the biggest pioneers in dance music. The bloke practically shaped the scene by himself, well at least trance wise. As i say im not his biggest fan and never will go out of my way to see him, but i respect him for what he's achieved. Ive had many a good night watching him dj, more so alot of years ago when he was alot more consistent than he is today like, but still. Jules
He might go on like a knob, but he's still a sound bloke. He plays some totaly shite, but can still play some ok sets. He used to rock Promise and Crasher around 01/02 though
mate, i would if i could id have it filled quicker than you could say 'chilling like a mammoth in a block of ice'
Friendly guy. Done very well for himself. His music/show/public persona aren't really aimed at my tastes but I can still respect them/him.
If judge didn't come out with groundbreaking phrases I would never have got into dance music. Do new members get an email inviting them to make a thread about judge jules in the music and DJs forum?
i like jules personally like, the amount of people that he introduced to the clubbing scene with his radio 1 shows is unreal(me being one of them) hes done loads for the scene in that respect, and though he can play some shite from time to time (that mix of face down arse up springs to mind ) ive seen him play some good sets as well, tbf hes rinsed promise a few times over the years. his catchphrases are legendary as well.... "cutting it up like a gilted lover to an ex's wardrobe" being one of my fav's Jules
Yeah miller is right jules was amazing back in the crasher days... Judge was the first person i heard to play dave joy first impression..probably my fave trance track of all time Ive heard this out probably twice in a club..jules played it and shokk themselves.. respect
back in 99/2000 the judges saturday warmup was fucking legendary i was about 13 back then and since i couldnt go to the pub his shows were a fucking godsend
I will always love him for the time he played Face Down Ass Up at Promise purely for the look on Rossy and Peters faces
A lot of people seem to have short memories with him and like to jump on the slagging him off band wagon. Like a few on here have said though. He doesn't play the greatest tracks now and has maybe lost some of the spark he used to have however you can't deny the impact he's had. His whole contribution and dedication to making the scene massive is very impressive. Down to his days as a DJ on Kiss FM when it was a pirate station to breaking through onto Radio One and bringing the scene into many households changing the way most thought about Dance music. Some of his earlier mix Cd's are class. CD's like his Ministry Of Sound Classics that contained tracks like VooDoo Ray, Fools Gold & Energy Flash. Other CD's like the original Clubbed. Some of his sets at The Sugar Shack in Middlebrough where awesome. There was even one night when he turned up early and played a funky set upstairs then promptly jumped out the box and ran down to the main room to play his Trance set. He always has a lot of time for his fans and even now if you e-mail him, you will defo get a response. Don't be so quick to knock the guy just coz everyone else is. To me he is still a legend in the scene.
Agree with much of what has been said. He may be less consistant than a few years basck but i've had some of my best ever nights seeing the judge - 2 judgement sundays and slinky in bristol spring to mind!! Should also be noted that he's one of the few big name dj's willing to play smaller venues in lesser known towns (he's even played at the institution that is the Park End club at home in oxford!!) rather than just demand the big fees for the big gigs.
The first time I went proper clubbing he was the name I was most looking forward to saeeing. This was on a lineup that also included marco v and matt hardwick. So hes not the best dj in the world but he drew me to clubbing and showed me the way lol.He plays alot of cheese but I've never had to go out of the room while hes being djing which I have for djs such as fergie and eddie at times
