You people might not be into techno, but appreciate him for what he is, one of the best DJs in the world.

I don't like the ambient chillout shit that you get plastered on free CDs of ministry magazine all the while, the sort of stuff the Matt Hardwick's thrive on, but I appreciate he is a good DJ on the technical side. I'm not a big fan of rock music but I'll accept that Jimi Hendrix was brilliant at what he did.

Picotto plays cracking techno sets, it's just a shame a lot of people expect him to play softer ambient and melodic trance. He's been into techno for a couple of years now. You book a techno DJ, he will play techno. Why is this a shock?

it isnt a shock to me, its a shock to the people who come who arnt into the music and think hes guna be playing castles in the sky type stuff.

as ive said before, i respect him, because he must have something to have made it so big, i respect any1 who can DJ, because its something id love to be able to do, and to be as big as he is then well done, we cant say hes a crap DJ, because we are talking about him so much, and this is what makes his name heard, the fact that people go into such deep disscussion about his DJ'ing skills.

all im saying is he's not really for me, i can handle him for a short amount of time, but for 6 hours.......kiss your fucking ears goodbye!

FACT matt hardwick doesnt play chill out.

FACT picotto has to play his wannabe techno-pop at trance clubs cos he isnt acknowledged by real techno fans and djs...why the fuck would any REAL TECHNO DJ play at gatecrasher?

Fair enough, a lot of people who just turn up for the name dont realise he is a techno dj. But everyone on this board seems intelligent about music. So you all clearly know that he is basically a techno dj and therefore he is going to play techno. So why all the complaints when he does?

How can you call an opinion a fact? Are you so supreme that your opinions are inherently the gospel truth?

Speaking as someone who likes his techno and hard trance, I find Hardwick's stuff chills me out. Is that a crime? In fact, before I was forced to delete most livesets from my computer (lack of hard-disk memory for new MP3s) I listened to Matt Hardwick sets to chill out to. I found them relaxing. He is good at what he does, but the club is not really the place that I personally want to hear that stuff.

Could you define "wannabe techno-pop", it's a term I'm not familiar with.

I hope this was just a heated ill-thought out response, or are you really about to suggest that Marco Zaffarano, Alex K. Katz, Umek, Marco Bailey, and Chris Liebing productions (all of which he plays regularly) aren't 'real techno'?

If a techno DJ visits Crasher, plays his techno, does he suddenly become a "wannabe techno-pop DJ"? As I say, I hope this was just a knee-jerk criticism. He does, afterall, play at both trance and techno clubs all over the world, and is probably the most in-demand name in the techno scene.

For people who say he isn't a real techno DJ, define a "real techno DJ". He plays techno, he produces techno, what more do you want?

it is a fact that matt hardwick doesnt play chill-out trance (as his usual sets)....he plays your usual euphoric through to hard trance and sometimes when warming up he plays a more proggy set...he doesnt however, play chill-out....or maybe you would like to define what you mean by 'chill-out' trance...i hope this was just a 'knee-jerk' criticism.

'wannabe-techno pop' is the term i use to describe picottos style havin heard a techno fan comment on it...i think it suits his style rather well...if he was a REAL techno dj why doesnt he play at REAL techno clubs? he plays at crasher, promise, GK etc. because they are the places that book him, as he pulls in a crowd...most of who probably dont have a clue what style he is but just go cos he is hard. would be interestin to see if he was on at a real techno club what the turn out would be.

    and yes, i am supreme...get over it!!!;):p:D

picotto is good at what he does. end of.

i love techno and i did used to love picotto, i've been trying to work out why i loved him so much the first 3 or 4 times and then why i've hated it the last 3 or 4?

anyway going to check out some so called "real techno dj's" at bugged out later this month. will then give you my verdict on whether i think picotto is a bad dj, or whether i actually just don't like techno anymore.

So because a techno DJ plays his techno at Crasher, he suddenly isn't a "real techno DJ"?

I don't like Judge Jules much, but that's not because he plays on Radio 1. Is he not a 'real club DJ' or a 'real trance DJ' because he's on the radio?

The trance scene is so much bigger and generates more money than the techno scene. The biggest trance names are known the world over, the biggest techno names aren't.

Being a man in such high demand (one of the world's most in-demand DJs) Mauro Picotto is wanted by a lot of techno and trance clubs. Because he has evolved from a highly successful trance career into techno, his trance fans havn't left. If a man can rock Crasher for 6 hours and the crowd love him, why shouldn't he play there?

There are some techno fans who don't like him just because of his trancey past, just as some trance fans don't like Judge Jules just because he's on the radio. However, he plays at both techno and trance clubs around the world. To say he is not respected in the techno scene is not true. He is a bit like the Judge Jules of the techno scene, he is a techno DJ, but some snobby techno addicts who want to look hardcore boycott him just because of his melodic trance tunes about six years ago. I disagree with those people, just as I disagree with trance snobs who dislike Jules just because of his radio work.
