there's a few people, both on this board and regular foundation visitors, that would strongly disagree with u. and with good reason.

I'd be more worried about the long term effects of ket. I imagine in 10 years we'll see a new wave of fuck-heads all blaming their mental health problems on special k.

It is used on horses because it is considered safer than other anaesthetics. Same reason it's used on children.

Short-term we know ket causes very little damage....however nobody knows what heavy use over a long period of time will do to someone. I'd be more concerned about psychological damage than actual damage to the body.

one of my mates has been hooked on it 4 a couple of years now. He is very paranoid indeed and rarely goes out without doing anything.

    I agree with the above...

It has already been linked with paranoia and skitzophrenia (sp?) - but don't confuse recreational use with an abusive habbit.

    Short term effects:
    This is bad shit

Ketamine is similar molecularly to phencyclidine (PCP--or "Angel Dust") and thus creates similar effects including numbness, loss of coordination, sense of invulnerability, muscle rigidity, aggressive/violent behavior, slurred or blocked speech, exaggerated sense of strength, and a blank stare. There is depression of respiratory function but not of the central nervous system, and cardiovascular function is maintained. Since ketamine is an anesthetic, it stops the user from feeling pain, which could lead the user to inadvertantly cause injury to himself/herself. Ketamine may relieve tension and anxiety, is purported to be a sexual stimulant, and intensifies colors and sounds.

The effects of a ketamine 'high' usually last an hour but they can last for 4-6 hours, and 24-48 hours are generally required before the user will feel completely "normal" again. Effects of chronic use of ketamine may take from several months to two years to wear off completely. Low doses (25-100mg) produce psychedelic effects quickly. Large doses can produce vomiting and convulsions and may lead to oxygen starvation to the brain and muscles; one gram can cause death. Flashbacks may even occur one year after use. Long-term effects include tolerance and possible physical and/or psychological dependence.

    some other effects:

Two psychological difficulties which seem to come up for those who use ketamine regularly are paranoia and egocentrism. There are many reports of regular users starting to see patterns and coincidences (synchronicities) in the world around them which seem to indicate that they are somehow more important or integral to the world than others. This same sense of the world focusing on the user can also feed into a sense of paranoia.

    Addiction Potential
Ketamine has the potential to be both physically and psychologically addicting. Individuals who use it regularly may find it difficult to stop.
