Start agreeing with some different promoters then. Put it about a bit.

digital's a damn site less hostile to smaller promoters than foundation was in it's early years IMO, and unlike most on this thread other than mr daly, i've promoted independent nights against both.

foundation used to physically chase you off if you tried to flyer outside the club in the early days, and i remember catching the promise poster lot red handed taking our posters down.

of course it's a bit of a pain in the arse having to fo up against turbulence when they put their big line ups on, but we'd always have to be promoting against someone, and i'm sure it wasn't done deliberately, as we're also perfectly capable of pulling numbers off turbulence as well - i know the turbulence lads were worried about this when the launched at digital.

if digital start to stop people flyering outside their club, then you may have a point, until then, I've no issue with the way they operate (and fuckwit wannabe club promoters not clearing up their flyers outside digital is the most likely reason for them stopping people flyering outside there anyway... there's a reason i clear our flyers up afterwards)

smile was rammed too until they put rnb djs upstairs and down, and then people stopped going

it was mint for a student night, a quid in (3 quid later on) but all the drinks were a quid, house classics downstairs and a wee bit of rnb upstairs

lol - I knew someone would pick up on that.

basically the promoters who've been around for while generally know the score, don't turn up mob handed to flyer, do a bit of clearing up after themselves, don't get in people's faces outside the clubs etc.

i've seen it loads of times where some new night starts, have about 5 people turn up to flyer, piss off the door staff, piss off the clubbers, then leave without even thinking about picking up any of their flyers that have been dropped.

I call them wannabe's because 90% of the time they'll do 2-3 nights, then sack it off. they don't give a shit about pissing other venues / promoters off because they're only in it for the short term. Their actions though can fuck things up long term, reducing the number of places the rest of us can poster and flyer because they've been taking the piss.

    Ok my 2 pence worth

I think digitals changing of nights to go up against similar nights at the cosmic is shocking and does not allow a heathly scence to devolp

Also i have notice smaller nights booking dj's first and then digital booking them after they have been a success for the smaller nights. To me thats style biting.

On the plus side so many poeple feel digital is souless cliched money making machine, that small nights with moreforeward
thinking music policys and ran by poeple who actual have a love for what they are doing are becoming more popular.

These nights to me have a much better atmosphere a loyal less fickle crowd and hardly any trouble.

I don't realy count Judgment day or tuberlance as nights that do what i mentioned.

But you know as soon as they stop bringing the required profit digital will drop them.

    Here’s what to do:

Take out a blank sheet of paper or open up a word processor where you can type (I prefer the latter because it’s faster).
Write at the top, “What is my true purpose in life?”
Write an answer (any answer) that pops into your head. It doesn’t have to be a complete sentence. A short phrase is fine.
Repeat step 3 until you write the answer that makes you cry. This is your purpose

    :spangled:

i'm not really convinced that this is what's happened though to be honest.

there'd have been a lot of other factors in play, other than fucking over some nights at the cosmic ballroom IMO. I'm pretty sure the other factors such as not having a consitant night on the first friday since head candy seems to have abandoned ship, wax on being limited to which dates they can do to avoid clashing with their leeds events, which date's best for retro (if that's getting a regular slot) etc. would have been the driving force behind any change. the impact on the cosmic ballroom events would have been a fairly minor consideration IMO.

I think that some of you are mistaking yours and your circle of friends' opinions and passion for the way everyone else feels about things...

Most people see clubbing as going out and having a laugh, not a way of life.

I'm not slagging anyone off here as being into something is cool but some of you expect way too much loyalty to your own nights.

Loyalty only extents to the point that you are offering poeple what they want.

I see music as a big part of my life but not the be all and end all of it.

But i know a wide circle of poeple and who want to go out and dance to music but not in the digital enviroment because of fights, lasses getting felt up or simply the lack of atmosphere.

Absolutely! There appears to be a rapidly diminishing number of die-hard clubbers.

it's be easier/better for big and little nights and dance music fans if guest djs charged less, there's a fair few i'd like to see but it's rare they play in the toon cos they cost too much to be viable, the c#nts

Simple supply and demand economics - they'll charge what people are prepared to pay.
