CLUBBING IS BECOMING MORE OF A SAUSAGE FEST.

and as for the original question...

of course clubbings changing, and thank fuck for that, it appears to be heading back to being a bit more underground again which might mean we get rid of the wannabe's and posers and get back to having clubs full of people who fucking love it again.

personally I reckon a lot of it's to do with the effect of all these new clubs / promoters offering watered down clubbing lite versions of the real thing... the late licenced bars have also had a massive effect on all clubs, particularly in newcastle where the clubs haven't really been able (or willing in most cases) to extend past 4am, unlike Leeds where the clubs have been buzzing every time I've been there recently. Essentially there's more options for people now at midnight than there were 5 years ago when it was only the big clubs that were open past 2.30am, and virtually no pubs were open past 11.30pm, with the opening of places like the gate which have huge capacities and just hoover people up.

When I was first clubbing 10 years back in newcastle if you wanted to hear anything like decent dance music on a weekend you had the choice of Nice, Shindig or Viva on a weekend, + occasionally Arcane or something at the university, otherwise it was a warehouse party or more likely house party. Now the scene is spread really thinly between fuck knows how many different venues and club nights, it's no wonder not every big capacity venue is full every week like back in the day (or was it ever really that way?)

fuck it, I remember when none of us even fucking knew what trance music was called, it was just the bits that provided some of the proper hands in the air grinning like loons moments at arcane and the like. I fucking loved it back then, when it was mixed into the house room of clubs, it was only when clubs started playing the same style stuff from doors opening to the end and calling it trance that it bored the pants off me... but then that'd be what most of this board would be looking back on as the golden age of clubbing:wink:

bottom line is, if it's changing in a way you don't like, or you want there to be more trance etc. then get off yer arse and do something about it. Dance music has always been about DIY culture, the corporations may take over for a bit, but then they get greedy, miss the next trends and suddenly find out that the kids they were dissing last year for not having a clue and dressing like loons are pulling in several thousand people a week at some place down the road.

Bottom line, if you're leaving it to the big boys to sort it out, don't complain when there's nowt decent on eh <or just come to freaky dancing and join the techno possie coz we really know how to party:wink: >

[and there endeth the lesson according to gav]

Sounds like most of your drab, recurrent posts on the matter.

14 years this year for me.

Clubbing is more or less the same as it always has been - dark room, bright lights, drugs, drink, DJs, music.

I'm sure BOB will agree after about the ten year mark it all becomes a bit 'samey'.
