yeah true but 2 b honest i cant remeber the last time they was more than 500 people in promise! i dont know how much it costs to put the nite on but it must need to get quite a few people in just to break even, if the low turnouts continue can prom ise survive in newcastle? i hope so maybe the major changes will make a difference!

The 'troops' shouldn't be rallied around or made to do anything, they should go because they want to go not because they feel they have to. That's not the best recipe for a good night out.

I do think that maybe Promise haven't addressed the underlying issues to why Promise isn't fairing up as it should be.

Let's face it, it caters for a local crowd, it's almost stigmaised and labelled as some sort of local club.

I wouldn't say its a very judgemental place as someone pointed out, more sharon and traceys than jumped up ponces.

It's all well and good branching out with new nights but the problem is with it in Newcastle, and I'm sure the management know this and are looking for something to compensate, sounds abit like Crasher this time last year no? with the weeklys not doing so well and then introducing GC London.

I get the impression that Promise have a high regard for their local talent and their residents. That's all well and good but Im sorry it will not entice people to get off their arses and make the journey to foundation. With just 1 main headliner usually, people will go elsewhere where the competitors are showcasing 3 for the same price and for longer, I,m sorry but Promise definately needs to get a permenent 4am license, and I dont know why someone hasnt come up with setting up an afterclub either to co-inside.

I don't think necessarily as some suggest its all because its far too up north bollocks, I know people who use to travel from London each week for Crasher, Distance has nothing to do with it, if it has that special something, then people will do whatever they can to get there.

but its down to the council about the wanky 3 or 4am licences, and they wont do it... until that changes....

completely agree with the distance bollocks, i go up once a month... it costs a fortune, but i know i ll have a quality time with mate, who i dont get to see enough.

Promise has had a succession of special 4am finishes hasnt it?

Have ambulances been called because people went under on gb?

If the council have no case to not give you it, then pursue it, unless they can come up with reasons not to give you it, then to me that's a good case to go forward to get it.

    What time does Shindig finish?

shindig finish's at 3, i think foundation is only allowed one 4am finish a month and that has 2 b shared between promise and shindig. newcastle council is shit. ive never know of an ambulance being called 4 sumone going under on gb.

your right one headlining dj and a 3am finsih is not going to get people to travel up to newcastle. the busiest ive seen promise is on 4am finsihs with a few headlining djs, apart from fri that was affected cos of the arena!

If Promise could get 4am each week they would have it as would shindig.

Just because there is no reason for them to block the 4am finishes doesn't mean they wont.

Maybe to some degree Newcastle is at a disadvantage and maybe just has to face facts and just be patient and over time if it's a goodun it will work.

I don't know the history of clubbing in newcastle, maybe someone would like to enlighten me, but I get the impression it's still all very fresh and new on the scene, to the people and to the council too, probably why they arent as willing as others around the UK to give out bigger/daring licences.

Clubs in Sheffield, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds have the advantage because their scenes has been established for a long time and have proved their worth and trust with the council and most importantly, with the punters.

So, maybe it still has to build up that reputation over time, these new nights with goodgreef/promise hull could be one of the ways to do that.

You think of Sheffield, you think of Gatecrasher, Liverpool, Cream, Manchester, the Hacienda, Birmingham, Sundissential, The Nightingale, all established clubbing scenes with alot of history behind them and still going strong. One club goes, another comes in better than the one before, because they've learnt and grew up with the best.

You think of Newcastle and you think of........? well to you maybe the locals it's easy for you to say but to joe bloggs, I doubt they could think of a club off the top of their heads.

Promise is still farly new and is doing alot for Newcastle, but it has to do alot for the punter in general too, I want to beable to come up and feel like my pound is being valued just as much as yours.

Clubs like Gatecrasher and Godskitchen started up and caused the hype. The hypes now gone, punters are a hell of alot more cynical nowadays, so it makes it 10 x more difficult for up and coming clubs to work.

You lot put your residents and local talent up on a pedistool but to joe bloggs in Sheffield they don't necessarily do the same. As much as they might be great n all, who does the priority go to, them or to Paul Van Dyk or Tiesto?

    1. Shindig, Always....blah blah blah blah.... Clubs in Manchester are REALLY anal about stuff like that (except for Sankey's).

    2. So do I, when I'm with the right people

    3. My point was that I don't wanna be surrounded by kids who rely on drugs to have a good time. Ever been SOBER in a club? I mean TOTALLY sober. It can be a bit disconcerting sometimes.

    4. Heh - like I have a choice - sometimes it's either go with the flow or stay in.

    5. I don't play out anywhere anymore. I can't be arsed with dealing with pilled up & pissed up Joe Public. And no, I don't have an agent. And er... no I don't want to have a go at any DJ competition. I no longer have anything to prove.

I remember the 1st time I ever went to Foundation. It was a Friday night ages (like 2 years) ago. I got there at about 10.30 and there were about 100 people in there, scatterred about the place. The DJ was playing stuff that was way too loud, fast & hard for the time of night and for the amount of people who were there. He definitely gave me the impression he was a bedroom DJ who hadn't quite got any live experience. I left after successfully getting my money back.

The other times I've been to Foundation (mainly Shindig nights) I've been asked for gear so many times I lost count - which isn't really an indication of how good the club is IMHO.

    Ever heard of irony??!?!?!? :D

not that I'm anti drugs or anything (That would be a tad hypocritical I think) - I just don't wanna be fucking hassled every 2 minutes.

I DON'T GO. That's exactly the fucking problem. Maybe I'm just too fucking picky for my own good - there's just too much shite being tolerated everywhere.

Ahh, the old 'start your own night' thing is coming,.... NAH - can't be arsed. If there was a big market for quality clubs there'd be a lot of it about, but there ain't, so er....
