some builders and a club of some sort would be the best guess mate to be honest i have no idea i just know the guy that used to promote ikon has gone to the boat as i said before, but having worked for luminar in the past this is what i based my guess of what it is going to be on !

Used to go all the time 98 -99. To be honest then I thought it was mint classics like verecochha, out the blue and binary finary got caned. Really good atmosphere.

    Then I stopped going.

I went back a couple of years later. I walked in and warrior was blasting with loads of rajees giving it some serious benwell hop. Had loads of wankers asking for tabs and deliberately bumping into you all of the time

Think they just started letting in loads of bull knackers in and it just went shit from there.

how are they going to change the dress code? it was always strickt but was full of charvers - so they going to LOWER the dress code?!?!

    it'll be worse!

mint venue, could be amazing - but it needs the charvers to survive, it can't fight digital

a prime example there of what i have been saying for years superclubs were a victim of their own success when leisure company's seen the potential for raping money out of the clubscene and the indi promoters sold out to them thats when it started being a business rather than a passion look at the small indi that resisted such as parle vous still going strong now with out outside medeling and still has that underground stronghold on its members you still have to take your own drinks FFS how underground is that!

I used to do Fridays & Saturdays but it was too much, especially with the hours I do in my main job, so they got him in on Saturdays and apparently hes doing a mint job

the bar "liquid" in town has nothing to do with what ikon is going to be !!
they are not changing the music policy nor the customer preference, they do after all take nearly £100,000 on a sat night.
the new place is the same owners as always but its the last one in uk to be converted,i was told by management that "we cater for the lower end of the market and it pays to do so" we have no intentions of changing anything but the interior of the two clubs ( envy-ikon"!
the new club will have a complete walk around balcony and a new bar area wich is currently the space above the entry area,it will also incorparate envy as a seperate club area downstairs.

even so i wont be going !
it might be good for a month or so but then it will just turn back to ikon again !
    chavs,spavs and cardboard gangsters......

The first time I went to Ikon was my first ever night out in Newcastle. We said to our flat mate at Uni who was from Hexham to take us out in Newcastle.

She took us to her favourite bar in the city - Kiss in the Bigg Market.... and then onto the only club she knew that played house music, apparently - Ikon....

Was obviously the wrong person to ask..... Lasting memories of that night are all the girls with us getting molested in Kiss, "Cheer up Peter Reid" sung full volume in Kiss and sticky carpets in Ikon.

Been a couple of times since, but last time must have been Lashisential, which was terrible.

DJ'd in Envy a fair few times for Nice. Got some great memories of their but could never get into a dancefloor which had a fruit machine at the edge of it.
