As of 21st December, my decks, my new mixer and my headphones will have cost £1480

You'll grow out of decks, and most importantly mixers, when you begin to get more advanced and start needing more features.
Not so bad with decks tho, especially if you splash out al ittle and get a decent pair at first, they should see you through.

My first decks were Numark, and they saw me through around a year and a half, and there middle-market turntables are good, but the TTX1 is bit ambitious of the numark lads if you ask me.
It's all dependent upon personal preference though. When I first started out, and was amazed by all things shiny and silver, I longed for a pair of Vestax PDX-D3s. They're still probably the best deck Vestax have ever made, but they've now been discontinued, and taken over by the 'mighty' PDX-2000, which IMO looks a bit too stupid. I prefer a Technics 1210 Mk2 over any other turntable on the market right now, but I know a lot of people that prefer the PDX-2000, and increasingly, the TTX1, Smartie, for example, reckons it's top notch. As I say tho, it depends upon what you wana do.
The best thing to do would be to go and see the nice boys at Global DJ Centre, and ask if you can try out the 1210, the PDX-2000, maybe the X1 if they got any in, and even the Stanton STR8-100 if you like, and a few of their middle-market mixers, dependent upon how much you wana spend (as i said, I have the 275 for sale). This way you'll get a feel for what you like. No-one knows what you'd prefer most but you!

Tell you what mind, after all this help I'm giving you, you'd better do me proud and start plaing some fine quality House music once you get some wheels of steel! :p

    Hope I've helped you matey!
