Ha ha, a south containing Peckham, Brixton, and Kennington sure ain't suburban bliss!

I was thinking more Putney, Wandsworth, Battersea and Clapham

putney is nice, richmond and twicks are really good also.

I used to live near richmond park which was realy nice - about as suburban as i wanted to get really!

Yeah, my first 3 months in London were in Putney.

Nice area, just a bit on the dull side, and a bit too far away from the centre for my liking.

That whole area- Kew, Chiswick, Richmond is all really nice.

Parts of Kennington are lovely! Go and have a look at places like Cleaver Square.

Actually, you're right. I was walking near the Oval a couple of weeks ago, and there were some really nice streets/houses.

    So I stand corrected..

I'm moving to london at some point over the next few weeks... heading to golders green or stamford hill (depending which property i like best).

My money doesn't go far in the big LDN.

I'm getting well into the idea now :D

The trouble is that the places I want to work are going to be megabucks to live in, but I know a few others going down so we might be able to split somewhere.

    Cheers all

well dont work where you live then

Public transports is 100x better than Newcastle

e.g. around 140 buses an hour go through Elephant & Castle, no waiting for 15 minutes for the Metro and its CHEAP..£1 bus to anywhere in London and £2.50 is the most ive ever paid on the tube for a mammoth journey

has anybody ever dealt with flatland? know if they are any good? me and jay are currently looking for a little flat in London, and these seem the cheapest to go via, but we're wondering if they are any good?

does anybody have any other recommendations?

    thanks in advance :)

gumtree is by far the best place to look for rental property (specially if you're using the map button)

Estate agents are all pretty much the same except Foxtons...avoid at all costs

Gumtree is completely hit and miss, you could easily end up in a place where the landlord does fuck all and rips you off...atleast with an offical estate agent, they have slightly less inclination to fuck you over.

most estate agents work on behalf of a landlord, properties which agencies manage for landlords tend to be more upmarket (as there is a cost to property management)... You're just as likely to get ripped off by a landlord you accessed through an agent.

    I dont agree

either way, there are good and bad landlords through both avenues but I would much rather go with an Estate Agent then a landlord out of a paper for my first flat in London...
