Its a council house therefore the council are responsible for the works carried out to it

Bollocks. Somebody could live in a well nice area, never get burgled or have subsidence ever but claim for the most minor of incidents (like your freezer breaking and claiming for the food you lost) on a regular basis and, as claims are kept on a central database that all insurance underwriters can access, they'll know you're a serial claimer even if you take you business elsewhere.

It may not drastically effect you first time. But if you claim for utter shite, they could rate/load your policy premium slightly.

I don't think it means you lack intelligence if you're unsure about insurance terms and conditions. For somebody that doesn't work in insurance (I mean Joe Public, not you) all the shite in the small print can be confusing. There's always clauses in there to protect the insurance company

So true but thats the con of any insurance policy, something that boils my blood.

    Especially car insurance...

You have to have it and it costs loads to get it. If you then actually have to claim on it they do anything they can to not give you the money and if they do your premiums rocket

Another one is these 'payment protection' schemes that protect your credit cards etc...again they'll find any little thing to avoid paying out

    Crooks imo.

    couldnt agree with you more
but car insurance is a must to protect the innocent parties
but with other policies why bother paying for them if you aint gonna use them when you need to, you might as well just put the premium to one side and use that when needed

Totally, we have to have it (and for good reason) but when innocent people rely on a company they've paid X amount of £'s to repair/replace their car/whatever and the company find some ridiculous clause that means they don't have to pay out, it annoys me - its legalised theft imo
