    Re: Re: Great Britons

Thats very true. There was a survey done recently which might be on the news tonight. The results of the survey concluded that people are more likely to recognise the likes of fictional characters such as Peggy and Phil Mitchell, than polititions that run the country such as David Blunket, and powerful dictators such as Sadam Hussain!

This country is full of people who are more likey to look for a hero in the pages of Hello magazine, than through the history books. I mean come on, Charles Darwin, fucking genious, the guy practically invented biology and the theory of evolution. I my mind he is the greatest Brit of all and the guy i voted for.

I was reading that in the paper at work today. It actually said that in the survey TWICE as many people had heard of Phil Mitchell than had heard of Saddam Hussian. I find that staggerring. I wouldnt say i know anyone who hadnt heard of Saddam.

It may be snobish of me but i find this fact a little troubling.....There aint nothing wrong with reading your weekly celeb mag, but its far more important to know a little about your history, current affairs etc etc. If you wanted to move to the States for example, do you not need to pass an imigration exam to become a US citizen? involving question on US history etc???

It begs the question if we had to do it? how many people would pass the same exam based on the UK?

But i guess as we dont have to do an exam why bother learning about it?

as for the u.s thing...dont think they have that...hardly any of them even speak bloody english lol all you need for a U.s visa is over $200,000 to invest in their country, be a religious figure or have your whole f*king family over there

there was discussion about making immigrants pass a U.k exam to proove they could live OUR way of living...and an english language test...that was only a couple of months ago....havnt u been keeping up to date with your current affairs ;)

Could always be an intelegence thing?

He has blantently done more for the country and the world than any other person on the list. And putting princess di up there is just plain stupid. All she ever done was show up at a few fund raisers so peeps would give money and i am sure lenny Henry has probably raised more money then her so why the fuck isn't he in the top 10. Then there's churchill fair enough he was a great war time prime minister but thats it he deserve's to be in the top 100 but no where near the top 10.

And which fucking retards voted for david beckham?

Britain has produced some greats, sadly it seems, none recently! The retards who inhabit this isle voted for 3 sportsmen in the top 100, Redgrave, Beckham and some old geeza from 1966. Dodgy enough putting sportsmen in anyway, even if Redgraves achievments are pretty amazing, but Beckham! I've a lot of respect for him, but he's not great. Just shows the mentality (i.e. thick, and rate beauty over achievment) of ppl!

Di! Don't get me started, brainless fucking air-head, married to the future king of England, but manages to get preggers (and give birth) to a son by her lover. He looks nothing like either of them, but LOTS like thingy Hewitt, fuckwit!

Ok Dunc, if it's an intelligence thing, tell me why Brunel? And just saying "blatantly" aint good enough mate! I chose Darwin, but Brunel wud have been 2nd, but after seeing some of the prog last nite, not sure now... Brunel was a fucking genius man, prolific as fuck, years ahead of his time. Darwin gace us biology and the theory of evolution (and proved the non-existance of god at the same time - nice juan!), hard to beat!
