foundation was great club.. infact the best there was in the north east in the early millenium..

but the very same company who ran it into the ground could have saved it by maintaining the essential parts of a dance club..

    IE sound/lights and bars..

    oh yes..

they were even offered the money..

but thats when the recievers took over..

not pissing on the clubs parade as its a shame for all who worked there (good set of people) but it was on the cards a long time ago.. regardless of whether it was busy or not

one of the reasons we looked for somewhere else to go before it was too late... as even when we were still there the company was talking about removing bassbins or having to soundproof the whole front of the building because of the new flats..

that set the alarm bells ringing to us...

it will just have to go down as one of those fond memory clubs that you will never forget...like the Havana and Arena in Middlesbrough are to me and the Riverside.. but things move on...

Foundation took Shindig (and Promise while the good times lasted) to where it is today and was an amazing venue in it's day. Atmosphere was top class. Anybody who attended the nights regularly towards the end would have seen that some of these nights lacked the numbers needed to help them continue there long running success though.

Without Foundation there may have never been a Digital. The fact that the club itself (Digital) was voted something like 31st out of the top 50 clubs in the world, by the worlds top dj's themselves, within it's first year of opening says it all. Imo, today, Digital is better. We can all look back at the memories but, would some of our fav club nights have gone from strength to strength without the move to a new home?

    Digital

digital for me no contest, but i didn't grow up with foundation glad i didn't really, cause gatecrasher was what i grew up with and no club will beat that atmosphere, it rocked, but i can understand that people hold foundation close to there hearts like i do with gatecrasher.

i like both... i miss the steps on the side of the dancefloor and the terrace and atmosphere in foundation.....

digital has a better soundsystem, lights (the ones behind the dj especially) backroom, toilets (apart from the stupid taps).....

    but overall i'd say digital......

The feeling I get from this debate is that people are not discussing which venue they prefer but which era of clubbing.

Remember when Foundation was in it's ascendance there
were no forums on which to over analyse every aspect of
    things.

People met up at the club, even mobile phones/texting was a new thing. So the only way like minded people could communicate was on the dancefloor - these days things have changed.

If you take your cowie tinted spectacles off for a minute then Digital wins hands down. If your on a nostalgia tip then I understand why people are lamenting the lose of Foundation,

However the true poll is that clubbers voted with their feet rather than clicking their mouse and that is the true measure of things.

Most are peoples personal opinions on what THEIR personal tastes are and what they enjoy/want from a club

digital is bigger, better, flashier, better sound system, better lights, more room, no brown sweat coming off the ceiling - but the building isn't what makes something special - it's the people, whatever era u talk about.

i personally regulary go to Digital, i have nothing against it, it HAD a monopoly on the newcastle dance for a while but i prefered foundation for the atmosphere, the crowd (whatever night u went to) and the good times i had. i'm no 20 year old 'never been anywhere else proper clubbing' young 'un - i'm 31 and have seen many clubs, across the nation
