    I totaly agree with you,
respect to people who join up but they've got to be fully aware that there's a chance you could be killed/seriously injured (maimed)/psychologically messed up in military service for your own and your families sake

Fit and healthy lads can struggle with long marches so id recommend getting yourself a bergen and get used to them because you'll be doing loads in your training and they are probably the most demanding exercises you'll have to pass.

If you manage to get in then that alone is something to be proud of mate!!!

Week 1 would be good enough for the Army physical but the Marines are something else entirely. RAF arent even as strict as the Army with fitness but, as u described it, they are more "trade". My mate went for the Marines, when he got the training regime thru (which you've obviously been following) he thought fuck that, and joined the Army hehe.

If you know Mr Nee Beer (Lee Foster) hit him up on facebook as he was a Marine for years, he'll give you some good advice.

    Good luck K ;)

condolances mate, what a cunt :(

at the end of the day its war and people do die - and i'm not one of the ignorant masses that think that joining the forces might be a walkover - which is indeed why i'm intending on joining the marines. whoever joins a such an extensive frontline force and think's they'll be 100 percent safe derserves to be the first that go. i'm all for constant vigilance.

    cheers mate :)

we'll see what happens like - but i've been following this regime for a week or so now - after my normal training before that of course. it seems to be alot more enduranced based than anything else.

people think i'm stupid when i say i'm almost excited over the prospect of getting in :)

when i join the navy ill be doing mine warfare which is no where near as dangerous or as commendable as what you'll be doing

but ive been watching warship on channel 5 on mondays at 9pm and i just think life in the navy is my prefered choice

tbf the only reason why i wouldent join the navy is the fact that you have to wear that stupid hat. otherwise there would be no problem. and the fact i'd rather join the army. i hate the sea

whats the tests for the navy like anyways jimi?

    Re: Forces Training

Kieran, at your age mate you should be naturally fit enough to breeze the initial tests...once the Marines get a hold of you they'll iron out all the creases ;) *no pun intended*

 a patrol is just an invitation for anyone with an AK47 or RPG to take a well aimed shot at our lads. More soldiers/PMC's have died since the war officially ended. It's worse than it ever was out there mate.

We've only lost about 200 soldiers in iraq out of the thousands that have been over. Do the math. You could work out the probability of being shot Mista K. I would do it for you but I don't have time.

Its one of the most demanding jobs there is. Our lass lost a cousin who was a marine "patrolling" in afghanistan. The risks small but sos the wages for what you do

i dont know like - but i've got ammo if they do say out like that - from wikipedia:

    Chemical irritant contact dermatitis

is either acute or chronic, which is usually associated with strong and weak irritants respectively (HSE MS24)[4]. The following definition is provided by Mathias and Maibach (1978):[5] a nonimmunologic local inflammatory reaction characterized by erythema, edema, or corrosion following single or repeated application of a chemical substance to an identical cutaneous site.

The mechanism of action varies between toxins. Detergents, surfactants, extremes of pH, and organic solvents all have the common effect of directly affecting the barrier properties of the epidermis. These effects include removing fat emulsion, inflicting cellular damage on the epithelium, and increasing the transepidermal water loss by damaging the horny layer water-binding mechanisms and damaging the DNA, which causes the layer to thin. Strong concentrations of irritants cause an acute effect, but this is not as common as the accumulative, chronic effect of irritants whose deleterious effects build up with subsequent doses (ESCD 2006).

Common chemical irritants implicated include solvents (alcohol, xylene, turpentine, esters, acetone, ketones, and others); metalworking fluids (neat oils, water-based metalworking fluids with surfactants); latex; kerosene; ethylene oxide; surfactants in topical medications and cosmetics (sodium lauryl sulfate); alkalies (drain cleaners, strong soap with lye residues).

    - aha - my dermatitis was off working with chemicals at a bar, therefore if you remove the irratant it wont matter?

you didnt have slightly dodgey hands last year mate, your problems are minimal

i've done the army one a few times -

    1.5mile in 10 minutes 45 minutes
    50 situps in 2 minutes
    50 pushups in 2 minutes.

got the run down in 10 minutes and 1 second, and i normally do situps and push-ups weighted so they are a peice of piss.

either you'll have to bring your stamina up slowly Jimi or work harder - either way.

i'm no-where near where i need to be yet like, i'm waiting to find out if i can actually get in first argghhh
