Loads of shops take the piss these days. Signs that say "Sale stock is non-returnable" are illegal. All stock is returnable if faulty.

if u argue your point enough, they have no choice but to give in, as long as you know your rights. unless you do what i used to do when i was a shop boy and say "here's our head office number now piss off"

I used to return clothes to shops for a living when i was at college. I could tell you every shop in the north easts return policy.

Fenwicks are a dream. Voucher only for returns without receipt but take your £40 voucher downstairs and but a 30 pence paper and they have to give you CASH CHANGE.
