yeah incidence is higher in diabetics but thats something to do with insulin resistance isn't it?

but that makes sense for the obese cos its more in type 2 diabetes and insulin intolerence...

Sorry? Malnourishment qualifies as both under-eating and over-eating. Surely, having passed a degree, you should know that?

Obesity doesn't necessarily mean that you have a balanced intake of all vitamins, minerals, nutrients, amino acids, fatty acids, etc. It would be quite easy for somebody to be fat and still have a retinol deficiency.

I didn't say I knew what it would be, I merely said that I would be interested to see exactly what the article was about.

You get no points for randomly trying to be clever and in turn making yourself look stupid...

i thought malnourishment was just under eating, ethernopian style.

But anyway it had something to do with diabetes as already said

No, malnourishment really just means not properly nourished. The prefix 'mal-' just suggests a deficiency.

That's at least how I was taught it anyway...

That's what I mean. Which, in some cases, can be just as bad, if not worse, than having a lack of essential nutrients/vitamins/etc.

how would it be easy to have a vit a deficiency in the western world? its fucking everywhere!

and you can't count absorption problems as thats clearly not diet orientated. :p

anyway this study is about the pathophysiology of obesity and not diet...

You have a point here. However, speaking hypothetically, it would be perfectly possible to be obese and still have vitamin deficiencies.

On the other hand, there could be a link between too high an intake of retinol and blindness. I'm not sure, I didn't write the article, I was just interested as to what it would be about.
