perhaps a middle-way solution would be to keep the old forums, but in an archive section.

Also could any members who want to re-sign do so before this old msg board is zapped? Then you'd get rid of most of the old 'members' who don't exist/care/post and the active members are re-created ready for when the new board appears. Might need default passwords to start with.

But why would you want to get rid of them?!?!?

Rob once brought this up in conversation years ago and I never got it then, could someone explain please?

My reasoning for suggesting we keep the users is it makes the club look popular and busy... why would you want to get rid of deadwood that does the club good... also if someone like say my baby sister comes back from uni to find her account deleted she'd be pissed off.

I see no logic in deleting dead wood.

They might make us look popular, but lots of members prob don't even really exist! Look at he members pages, on the first page of S there are 30 members, only 13 of those have posted more than 10 times. What is the point of keeping those others?

because they make the club look busy.... surely you can see that this is a good thing.

Take your backroom example when there is only 30 people in it looks dead, the atmosphere isn't there, etc. the same applies to a messageboard - people are less likely to post on a dead board than a busy one, but more importantly if the board looks dead people will assume the same about the club which is far from true.

Deleting the members with low post counts will do no favours.

Give me one advantage to deletin them and eat my hat :p

people i meet @ promise and get talkin to.. i normally mention the board... blah blah blah... then they say they'll go on it 2mrw or sumthing.. these people register aftre a nite theyve been to because theyve enjoyed it... they mite not go as regularly as some of us... but mite still want to post after they do go to a nite @ promise...

deleting everyones posts will not make a fresh start... its just means the board is empty.. promise looks amaturish by having top restart the board... to other clubs it may already look like this with the getting rid of the main forum...

    For the record.

I am doing this for tech reasons, it's got 100% nothing to do with if the board is full of dross or not.

    Suggestion

If some has already sugested this i am sorry but why don't you set something up that will warn by e-mail and then delete members automatically if they have not posted for a long time mmmmmmm say 6 months.
This will certainly streemline the bored membership alot.

    Re: Suggestion

reading the other posts this one is an understandable and constructive point, TBH if there is a techy reason to change the board then it will make the board user more user friendly surely. To be fair rob knows what he is talking about!.

anyway it will be exciting to see the new layout!!!

    like getting new clothes!:D :D

but keep the colour skeam. imo
