Hundreds of thousands of people have already had their lives ruined because of the actions of one dictator.

I think if you could talk to some of the people FREELY in Iraq they'd be all for removing Sadam from power. However I don't think it's that easy.

There are probably alterior motives for this war, and there are probably just reasons as well. I just hope they get it over with quickly with minimal casualties...

    stop being prat....

A military coup or even a bloody assasination (and don't give me shite about doubles - so fuck if its a hard job... war is hardly an easy task!) is in my eyes far more humaine... but these methods will never be used as we don't control where the oil goes.

For the iraqi public... the victims in this.

If we go to war their country will be turned upside down, thousands of civilians will die - the country will be devestated and it would take years and years to recover.

Paul or me? I'd agree with you that war against Saddam is justified to stop his treatment of Iraqi people

prat was for pauls petition comment....

I don't think war against saddam is justified... I think removing saddam from power is justified (but if this is the case we are then to remove every single oppresive dictator and this would have huge reprecusions on a global level)... a war on iraq isn't justified its a greed/power fueled invasion of another country... A military coup, a sponsored rebelion, an assaniation are all far more humaine alternatives to war.

But I also think it isn't even our place to remove saddam... we aren't the UN - we're 2 nations out to make money and prove a point. This whole scenario reminds me of playground bullies who want something the littler kids have.

ok, there might be better ways than war. If the UN won't back action, doesn't mean we should follow. I don't feel 100% sure of UK/US motives, nor for French/German/China/Russia motives for opposing action.

to be honest, with what we know, I can't decide if this is right or wrong

I don't think Tony Blair would go to war, with the casualties that will follow, for $$$/ecomomic/political gain. When he was on tv in Newcastle, I thought he was being honest and truthful, and this is really what it comes down to for me. I belive he believes what he is doing is right, and he has more info about it than me.

And if this were to happen do you not think his son (who seems even more nuts than his father) or some of his evil sidekicks would start a war against us?

Thats why I opt for a military coup or a rebelion.... an assasination ranks just above war in my eyes... and in all fairness an assasination would completely unbalance the political structure of iraq - no1 would be able to rpedict what would happen.

    How?

He's syaing we don't know the full story so we might as well bomb iraq... fuck right off!

If there wasn't so much opposition by people who "aren't in the know" - we could well be at war now!

I would agree that a rebelion would be better but, would the number of people willing/able/brave enough to take part in it be anywhere near enough to make it worth while or stand a chance of succeeding? It appears that Sadam has instilled fear into the Iraqi people so I don't know how many people would stand up to him!

I don't think an assasination would work, fair enough it would get rid of Saddam but IMO someone else with the same mentality/regime would take over and follow on from him!

I didn't take it to mean that, I took it to mean that he can't form a valid opinion on wether the war is just or not because he doesn't have the information! I am in the same boat, I don't know if it is the right thing to do, I don't agree with a war but I don't have the information the government has!
