but how does it harm you when people believe this?

Its hardly fucking child abuses... you're a bunch of arrogant pricks that would be better suited to a stalinist state than a free democracy.

Let people live their lives to their own beliefs and customs.

Get a grip, it's hardly Stalinist to be teaching the masses (what most reasoned people believe is) the truth  In fact, it couldn't be less Stalinist

I quite agree that we should let people live their lives to their own beliefs and customs - that's why we shouldn't prescribe religion in our primary schools ;)

we're not talking about the masses, we're talking about faith schools.

Since when has creationism been taught to the masses?

I have no idea what's taught on this front in non-faith state schools - unfortunately our local school was a faith school, and before my parents realised how terrible it was, I had it preached to me.

Why should some people be disadvantaged in an age that values science by only being taught the Adam and Eve theory of the beginning of the universe?

If they want to learn it in their own time, at their own expense, then fine. But let's keep the school teaching for subjects that improve employability and future productivity - and the theories that are the most generally accepted theories and those that best fit the data available at the moment.

This is science; this is how we got past 'the earth is flat' and all the rest of it (though I did once have some Jehovahs witnesses come round mine, and argue that some reference to curvature in one of their books proved that God had said the earth was round, and therefore it must be true that the redemption or something was coming 'soon').

What a pessimistic view of education you have, school is not just there to enhance the economy it is there to instill values, unleash creative abilities, enhance our social skills.... to view it purely as a means of furthering our economy demonstrates such shallow expectations from our offspring.

I can understand why you are so opposed to faith now :D

schools should be free from religion imo, if people want to learn about it they should be taught by parents, or by other means

you don't fund the jewish schools, you fund the school your child goes to... The jews that pay the same taxes fund the schools their kids go to.

you pay taxes so that you can take from British scoiety... Just like everyone else that contributes.

Why should the christian, islamic, jewish, etc. communities be denied the same freedoms as you?

They pay there taxes, you pay yours.

Joe - do you think private schools should recieve the same amount from the government as their state funded counterparts?

    no.

private schools generate revenues and thus don't need state support.

i think they have to generate about 10-20% of their own costs... nowhere near enough to cover the running expenses of a school.

creationism is a blatent nonsense. To instill this in young children is as wrong as telling them to go sacrifice chickens or other mumbo jumbo. They have to operate in the real world when they grow up.
