and while were at it would you rather have someone with their finger on the nuclear button who thought that his life would end along with everyone elses, or someone who thought he would live on regardless?

I believe both Tony Blair and George Bush are on the record as having said they 'prayed' for advice as to whether or not it would be right to go to war in Iraq.

    OOPS.

I'd much rather the person with the finger on the button had a moral backbone provided by religion, than some $ motivated capitalist pig ;)

This is perhaps the most objectionable and idiotic theory of religious types both modern and old.

It smacks of hypocrisy and unintelligence to declare that the only way to be a so-called 'moral' person is to follow religion, or that those who religion are in some way morally superior. Needless to say, this ignores the many and varied repugnant acts carried out in the name of the Glory of God.

If your only and best reason for following a moral code is your fear of the 'celestial surveillance camera' sending you to hell, then I put it to you that you are challenged not only morally but in all probability intellectually too.

    where did I say that?

Religions tend to revolve around morality, capitalism is the diametric opposite of this... All i commented on was the religious fanatic forks talked of in comparisson to those that tend to control capitalist democracies.

religions tend to revolve around authority.
capitalism revolves around greed, but at least the most greedy person would realise that their possessions would be worthless if nuked, whereas the religious would feel that they would get another bite of the cherry

I wish to apologise for and retract my comment about religion making Einstein 'cock it up', with his 'god does not play dice....' analogy.

I am, I have learned, incorrect, as I had confused Einstein as a Jew with Einstein as a follower of Judaism.

    In fact, Einstein actually said:

I apologise for my misinterpretation and misunderstanding
    :)

I see Olmert has finally admitted that Israel has WMD (unlike Sadaam:rolleyes: )
I guess that's an example of modern science catching up with Judaism:D

At the time circumcision started, Judaism didn't know what a germ was, let alone a virus, let alone HIV, let alone that circumcision might have any effect.

Also, condoms are significantly more effective than 50%. Oh, and you don't lose as much sensation with a condom ;)

This has the risk of being misinterpreted by people who haven't understood it properly to suggest that people who are circumcised don't need to use other forms of protection, and might be dangerous as such.

Do you advocate surgery to remove everyones appendix at birth to prevent appendicitis?

You keep laughing at my religion andy, yet modern science is only just catching up with what we've practised for years.

We were either 3000 years ahead of our time... or we got our knowledge elsewhere.

Or, it was some primitive ritual which has turned out entirely by chance to have some modern day benefit.

You say 'we knew this already' - well, HIV wasn't described until the 40s, there are no reported cases before, and it's thought that this is when it entered the human species.

So, what exactly was the point of reducing the risk of catching something wasn't going to exist for another 3000 years?
