Disagree - Most times ive been to fabric ive never seen or heard anything from most of the DJ's ... but i trust the promoters to put on a great night so walked in there with no preconcieved aim to stand looking at someones head with a fag sticking out of his gob, bobbing his head over a mixer. Likewise, the times ive been to habit, i havent known much about the dj's but had a great time cause i trust the promoters .... so once again walk in there without feeling the need to look at the dj much. Most non trance dj's are miserable geeky fuckers anyways - i'd rather stare at the scantily clad girls in the crowd.
No I'm not. I'll quite happily go to Shindig, or other nights, on any night and will usually have a great time. However what most of these people would find if they went down a little more regularly is that Shindig is just as good on any night, not only when old Promise DJs are playing. I don't want to sound like I'm bumming Shindig here mind, I'm only using it as an example.
but you've just proved what i've just said, you go because you know they will booked dj's that play good tunes, so your there for the dj whether you look at them or not, your there for they style of play.
I'd say the death of the crashers and creams of this world are due to punters who only turn up for dj's and not for the club .... then when said clubs cant afford these dj's week in, week out .... they go out of business. Promise included.
but you are your unwilling to accept that these people may only like sasha etc... just because you don't
No..... the choice of DJ is down to the promotors who hopefully are good enough to book the right people, at the right time and hope that the clubber, putting good trust in them (instead of the DJ) will have a good night. How many times do you hear people coming back from arena gigs to say the same dj that everyone would be busting a nut over usually.... was 'shit' that night. I'd say that proves that turning up to a night purely on the basis of an A list lineup will end up in tears .... or a bankrupt promoter.
I'm unwilling to accept it because it's utter bollocks. It's just psychological nonsense. When DJs like Sasha, Dave Seaman and Zabiela play Shindig, they don't play trance like they used to play at Promise, they play house or prog, similar to what most of the other DJs at Shindig play, yet the part-timers go down solely because they used to play at Promise, and mock Shindig the rest of the time, when, in actual fact, they could go down every week and have equally as good a night.
what i'm saying is that no matter whether the dj is famous or not the night is still about the dj and what tunes he plays, if he plays shit people have a shit night if he plays good people have a good night, if he doesn't turn up they have to replace him with another dj or theres no night, so the night cannot happen with out them.
Stick the DJ in some poky hole near the back door of the room like in Fabric and I reckon you would notice a huge difference..
thats bullshitshit though shindigs musical pallette is very varied, its why its still going strong because people don't get bored, with the same shit week in week out.
I agree to an extent, but it's not that varied. It's still just house music at the end of the day. They have a variation because they have two rooms and they alternate what they have in each room on different weeks, but you're always likely to hear similar-sounding stuff each time you go in one of the rooms. Plus the Shindig residents are better than most guests they have on anyway, and they're on about twice a month each.
Mint topic for a debate you've just brought up here. Any Moodymann fans want to get involved in this?
you so talk out of your rectum it has always been about the music superstar "we love the dj2 worship didnt start until about 1994 / 1995" and dance music in its current incarnation has been jogging along since 1989
No i dont think that not being able to see the dj is the way it 'should' be - what im saying is that the times ive been to clubs where the focus isnt like it is/was at big name trance events is a refreshing change ........ for years of going to clubs where people stand looking forward, it was nice to go somewhere where the focus on the dancefloor wasnt towards one person. On the flipside, i go to trance nights in the same quantity as more house/tech nights and still have fun clubbing in a more 'gimmick' way - it just feels more novelty than anything else. French William - your going to have to think harder and post more than one line cookie cutter responses that you post in every thread to get a rise out of me lad
Kenny Dixon Jr. Techno DJ/producer from Detroit. The fact that you don't know who he is means I probably shouldn't continue, but he plays behind a sheet, and still attracts proper fanboys like Lee B, Daly, etc.
allies been mocking promise evere since he thought trance became uncool and SASHA NEVER played trance when he played PROMISE he played utter garbage fall asleep prog apart from very recently SASHA has been gash for years and aint been any good since he knocked out stuff like amoeba assassin rollercoaster on the decks in '97 people go to shindig because it like digital is a brand name if it were a fast food restaurant it would be macdonalds and their food is shite anyway you cant even dj worship downstairs in shindig the booth is about 50 feet high
