thats just it andy, train yards are more heavily camera'd than most banks; yet writers still hit them relentlessly.

cameras don't prevent crime; they barely asist prosecution.

Yes but you've no way of knowing if writers (I use the term in its loosest possible sense) would hit them even worse if they weren't there.

When you get your new car, let us know if you park it in a car park with or without cameras given the choice
    :D

More treatment of the symptoms, rather than the cause.

if there wasnt much violent crime or vandalism taking place, then we wouldnt need the cameras in the first place.

    (rosy tinted specs on)

.... Im amazed at how safe ive felt in places like Japan and HK (and europe) - you just get the feeling that people have better things to do with their time than hang around on street corners etc. ... Its a shame we havent cottened onto why thats the case, and done something about it - rather than just install cameras to watch the NEXT generation of feral kids ;)

andy cameras make no impact on crime; crime is just as rife now as it ever was.

we live in a statistic driven age and crime statistics remain constantly high.... if you want to tackle crime you tackle the cause.

we live in a surveilance state.

give me your surname and I can prove it ;)

Your biggest source of info would be facebook and here

The pilot and european studies have shown that the talking cameras reduce general knobheadery so I reckon they're ok.

I think that's more a case of when you're visiting those places you don't go to the rough areas where kids would hang about doing nothing but earning ASBOs. Everywhere I've lived on the continent (France, Germany, Luxembourg) has been just as rough as the places I've lived in the UK (Newcastle, Liverpool, London).

Yeah, none of my mates or me has been murdered so I reckon that's over-hyped too.

National crime levels have decreased over the last 20 years, contrary to media hype.

Fear of crime has however increased, people assume more crime is happening so they install cameras, which then serve to push a sense of criminality, therefore increasing the fear further and so on.

The cameras, ostensibly there to prevent crime taking place, serve no purpose other than to induce fear on the public.

statistics move around, some crimes decline (like car theft) while others experience steep rises (like violent crime).

That may be, but overall crime (upon what terms that is defined I'm not entirely sure) figures have decreased over the last two decades.

We're victims of mass media hysteria.
