Northern Soul - I love that album, but i dont know how you can possibly chill out to it. Its very troubled and intense, with the exception of 2 or 3 tracks.

And Smartie, how can you call The Verve pop? Shame on you. To me pop is music that made with one specific aim and one aim only - to sell records. I assume you are referring to Urban Hymns when you call them pop. It sold a lot unlike their two previous albums, but the music was still written from a total love of music and totally as they felt it. It just happened to connect with the British public unlike the previous stuff. More by chance than design. So ner. :p

Back to the question, i like Spiritualized for chilling out, though some of it is quite intense. Depends if im chilling out during a normal day or if you mean after clubbing. Cos if its after clubbing the only stuff my head can handle is floaty trance.

Literally speaking, pop means popular music. So are we to say anyone reaching the Top 20 for example is pop?? Therefore The Who and The Jam are pop. I wouldnt really have described them as such. Id say they were musicians producing some quality suff that managed to became popular.

Agree with ya on Oasis though. As soon as they became famous, they started making pop. After Defiately Maybe they stopped making music for the love of it and started doing it to make money or to keep themselves in the papers.

Back to Urban Hymns. When that entire album was written, The Verve had not had a Top 20 hit. Bittersweet Symphony changed that, but i dont think that they overnight become "pop". Anyway its still a great album whatever you want to call it.

    :D :D
