If you have a 17 inch TFT with a native resolution of 1280x1024 it looks seriously bad if you operate your PC at a lower res., eg 800x600. Why? Coz the monitor has to resize the signal to fill the screen. One pixel is 'averaged' over several pixels on the TFT which is why it looks blurred. This is also why TV pictures have a habit of looking very bad on even high spec TFT screens.

The most important thing to consider with TFT screens now is the response time - i.e. how quickly it reacts to changes in the picture. Obviously fast moving stuff like movies & games requires a fast response time, probably around 20 milliseconds or less. Your £150 15 inch TFT screen is unlikely to perform well with fast moving images. Bad response times are responsible for video & games exhibiting 'colour bleed' and blurs.

And FYI, DVI connections aren't always purely digital. They can carry analog signals aswell. Some TFT monitors only use the analog RGB signals even though they have a DVI connection

Native resolution or not... VGA to DVI is VERY noticeable!

Who would run a tft out of native resolution anyways... sheer madness.
