I don't think the comments about detox are mostly bitter. Most people who went said they enjoyed it despite the problems. I think Melt tends to take any criticism as a personal attack but considering how much effort and energy and hard work him and the others put in it's not hard to understand why.
Every time I've been they just got better and better and from the punters point of view things like the generators going off or the lights blowing were all part of it. People just expect SO much from what is basically a one off event every time.

Long ago I organised a series of events that started off with 100 people and grew till the last one had 1500. I really enjoyed it at first cos it meant that I could book artists I really liked and take a punt on interesting local bands and give them a chance. People gradually start to take you for granted though, after a while and just EXPECT you to do it all for them and eventually it got to the point where the event took my life over for three months a year, and (since I wasn't doing it for money) it used to really piss me off when people moaned about it after the event. I usually knew what went wrong better than the punters and it was usually stuff I had no control over, or people who had promised something and then let me down.
In the end I just ran out of energy.
Negative comments really sap your will to carry on if you run events for the love of it rather than as a living.
It's so easy to moan and so hard to actually make something good happen.

At last, someone who speaks sense.

It's pointless saying, 'the lineup is shit because I dont like the music' - possibly one of the stupidist comments ever. Why are you even commenting on it if it's not your thing????

People do start to take things for granted and they shouldnt.

These things never, ever go exactly according to plan, ask any promoter - Shindig, Ministry, Godskitchen, etc. I mean, look what happened at HiFi last year, and they are HUGE promoters. I work for Angel Music and believe me, although it may seem that all is fine and dandy you'd be surprised at the amount of things that go wrong that the punter doesn't see!

People should be very, very grateful that there is a promoter up here that does the kind of event that Detox is, because I dont see anyone else doing it. Taking the kind of risk with the venues and lineups that they do, etc. Melt, Satic et al deserve respect for that. If you think otherwise then try and do your own thing, but that would turn out to be a total waste of time.

If you want to slag off Detox but still be a punter, dont be surprised if they never do one again. Who can blame them?

A simple, 'thanks for the party' wouldnt hurt.

I am not 100% sure where this debate is at now with regards to what Detox was but I know for FACT a mate of mine played at one back in the day (WELL BEFORE CASTLE & OVERBOARD) & he was wacking out a load of Tidy Trax tunes & that record labed BK used to run.

the donors didnt bosh it out,and they didnt play 'live' ethier,if thats what u call it:wink: 2 cd decks and a mixer........they didnt play techno, even thou there were in a techno lineup room on flyer, nor did philyork or kevin energy.......so i ask,if u did do the 750 capacity venue in m.bru..would they have played the same music as they did on friday or techno??..

also a techno room might have umek or ben sims on,like u mentioned in past conversions?..not harddance names.......

just curious like..ud please more people into other stlyes if u had dropped a few names a replaced with summit different..in the end,im sure Poof, man savage and Probiues would have been enough harddance names to pull that crowd in

    did 600 turn up?..we know u cant count melt:lol: :)

the original events werent that good imho

its so cliched to say "oh they were good back then" or "they were better back in the day"

go on tell me the old followers

the old followers you refer to are the twats who every time we didnt put them or their mates on the bill they had a temper tantrum or a huff cos they thought they were mr "next big dj" or they wont ever travel down to town: cos believe me they never do and they theyve been to about 2 detoxes ever!!!!

I dont mind naming them if you want because the lot of them are pretty much a fucking waste of space,

tbh: there are countless other nights that have fallen by the way side in the past due to these same kind of internal politics, end of the day detox has lasted this long because it has a solid partnership and bond that exists between brothers and it is totally financed by ME and me alone

ive lost count of the number of times that ive run the idea of other investors coming in , but hey what a surpirse when it comes down to people dishing out cold hard cash people are full of opinions but dont want to risk the money

In future if it ever runs again it;ll run with a core team that are there through thick and thin that core team know who they are

Out of the 20 djs that played last friday only 6 of them were hard dance

People should get their head out of their arses

if you want an old skool rave go and start one or ask energy flash to run one.
