Rumour at Mick's place is they find out tomorrow.

As for agencies, they're just like any employer, you get good ones and bad ones.

The agency that got me the job im in now were fantastic, she still calls me a year down the line to see how im getting on, she didnt get a big fee as I am only a trainee.

However, the agency that me a job a while ago were complete twats, she gave me the wrong time for my interview, the wrong address for the office and was just a total waste of space.

You get companies that are exactly the same, i work for a brilliant company now who value their staff and treat you properly, but my previous employer was a fucking racist, sexist, fucking dick head! but just because he was a prick doesnt mean I am never going to work again just because he treat me like shite!! some agencies are good, some are bad, just like employers! you just have to find the right ones, and if you find a bad agency, tell them what you think of their service, I did! it felt mint!

    question about holiday laws

if someone has taken paid holidays, when there was allowance for them on the system, only to find out the allowance was there due to a system error, and the company have said the people who had taken them holidays would not be getting paid for them, no ifs buts or maybe's, definate no...whats the law on that ?

That happened to me before. It put me minus holidays at the end of the year and I would of had to pay for them if I didn't bring 2 from the next year back to cancel it out. Shocking cos I wouldn't of taken those days off if I knew. They said it was my responsibility to keep track of the holidays I've used.

Totally agree with some of the stuff in that article, as someone who' s been on both sides of the fence ie worked as a consultant and worked through an agency. No denying working as a consultant is a hard job, and you operate under a lot of pressure, but there are such a huge number of people who work in recruitment who seem to think its okay to mislead clients and candidates and generally be really wide in order to benefit themselves that the whole industry is tarred with the same brush. Personally I don't fully trust anyone who works in recruitment based on my own experiences, that seems to be a reasonable start off point, as far as i'm concerned trust is something that you earn through being dependable, honest, paying a decent rate and actually finding me work instead of endlessly bleating that 'its getting busy' and 'we've just picked up a big contract'

I've used agencies for the last 16 years in the engineering design sector. You get to know who the good ones are and who the bad ones are and build up a rapport over the years with them. I'm in Norway at the moment thru a UK agent so they obviously have contacts. I wouldn't have found this contract on my own. I don't give a shit what the agent gets for his cut, my gross is in 6 figures per annum.
haven't seen any sign of the credit crunch affecting over here yet.

at the end of the day, it's the employer's responsibility to make sure they're getting the best deal from the market for recruitment - there's plenty recruitment agencies, employers pay the market price for recruiting staff of the right quality! it's got no impact on the number of vacancies in the marketplace..

Yeah everyone should be but surely employers should be bright enough to keep a check too
