What the hell are you on about? How the fuck is rebooting gonna fix a cdrw that has a fucked loading tray? (I didn't even say what the problem was, did I?) My own technical training is self-taught, plus also from HP, plus tech dept of Evening Mail, plus NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Telematics, plus starting degree in October. Why the hell do you want to know that? It's none of your business tbh. Have you got some kind of problem with me or summinck, you're acting well weird. Other peeps say Computer Orbit's great, that's their opinion, and I have mine. Si's a big boy and can make up his own mind. Don't see why my opinion on a shop's customer service has to get personal.
Bargains! You stripping your old machine for parts (IDE cables, floppy drive, etc)? If so, you should be fine. (Unless you've got summinck like an HP, Compaq, etc, in which case you might need another floppy cable, but you can get that another time) I'd go for extra RAM with the £43-odd quid you've got left. If you're building it yourself get a coupla anti-static strips if you don't have any, best to be extra safe. And a screwdriver
The last coupla mobos I got only came with the Primary IDE cable... He can use the Secondary from his old machine though...
are biting for real? come on... heheh u nearly had me there. u think asking u to reboot is a SERIOUS remark. talk to frank, young man. did u really bite to that?
You'll probs need a Secondary IDE cable (the mobo will def come with a Primary - see Juski's post above), a floppy cable, and a floppy drive if you want to keep your old pc working. Should set you back only a few quid.
all out new HP/Compaq machines we've bought don't come with floppies AND only have onboard SATA controllers! We've had to modify all our bootable PC Image CDs/DVDs with ghost8.2 USB pen is now bootable too - which is handy - as long as the mobo supports it
I'm not a student, I have summinck else in mind... :angel2: (and not work neither, these buggers are locked down tighter than my nipple clamps) @ Si - you'll do alright, it's not really that hard to put together Just remember to line up the risers between the mobo and case so that the mobo can screw in easily, and to try and stay as static-free as poss (carry a radiator with you)
i ALWAYS (on older motherboards, dunno if it's still the same nowadays!!! ) forgot to move that flaming jumper, you know the one... i'd put it all together and it'd not power on! there'd be me thinking "shite have i blown the BIOS?"
I don't think you'll have to adjust any It's easier getting the chip and fan/heatsink on when the mobo isn't in the case... You'll find out
You've got enough memory, but an extra 512 would do you good Get a prog called Safe XP here: http://www.theorica.net/safexp.htm - read the help files, and start disabling some stuff you don't need, will help it run faster and safer
