shush your noise you silly little creature crawl back under the rock you came out of, you haven't been blessed with my presence therefore have no leg to stand on when attempting to put down my physical appearance.

Nope, it happens everywhere. One of my friends was beaten up while walking across Leicester Square at about 5am one Sunday morning.

London is generally better than most places though.

Anyone who's seen a picture of you has more than enough to go on if they want to put down your physical appearance.

this is too true that gay people are likely to be stared at or heckled or worse in general clubs if they were to show affection, but the further south you go the more accepted it is i remember at a goodgreef in manchester there was a few gay men couples there pretty much having it off!! they didnt seem bothered!! newcastle and further north are as least accepting as you can be, towards homosexuality, and ethnic minorities, but having gay only clubs, i think this is wrong, this is hetrophobia (if thats a word) the people on the door should decide whether the people who are coming through the door are there to have fun in a good atmosphere or to cause trouble, its quite easy to pick out trouble makers,

It's self defence. It's about being able to relax in a safe space away from potential agro. It's about being able to be yourself, particularly for those who aren't out to the rest of the world. It's about being able to kiss your partner without being stared at (take note Alex). It's about all this and more.

Personally, I've been lucky in that I've never really had any bother anywhere. I usually prefer places like Shindig and Promise (as was) to the majority of gay clubs. You tend to get a lot less hassle in 'proper' clubs rather than the Ikons of the world though.

I would like to move away from segregation, but there are a lot of attitudes to change before we get there.

exactly, I'd wager a bet that most homosexuals that favour gay-only nights would much rather their homosexuality wasn't an issue at straight nights.... It's hetrosexuals that create the problem - not homosexuals.

although there wouldn't be any homophobia if there weren't any homosexuals

absolutely true, i dont understand how in this modern day people still cant have a bit of open mindedness, it was my first time in the gay scene in newcastle the other week and admittedly i did find a bit strange seeing so many gay people but it didnt offend me or scare me or anything it was purely because its not that usual where i normally go, the strangeness was only for about 5 minutes then i had a really good time!! usually women are more openminded than the "mens" men, its this pig headed attitude we need to get rid of!

How can you have a gay only night? Do you get some sort of membership card when you decide you are gay?

tbh most of the hard dance scene originated from the gay scene spesh down here i.e garlands, syn;ergy, legends, trade! and it is the strait guy's going to them that brought their freinds into it and thats how it started down here like someone has said the doorlads on gay clubs just know who to let in an keep out you can just tell , plus strait men volotile twards gay men usually do it cos they feel intimidated !

Some lesbians would find it very intimidating being stared at by a straight guy in those circumstances. And you wouldn't be staring at a straight couple necking on in the same way, would you?
