    One of my employees is a pakistani student, when he first came over here the local mackums started shouting paki at him... he waved and thought nothing of it.

    The word itself is unoffensive.

    However if those same youths shouted paki at him now - he'd probably knock them out....

    The term nigger is a mispelling of the latin word for black (niger)... it seems strange that both negro and black can be unoffensive while niger/nigger can trigger such startling reactions.

    The terms Nigger and Paki are offensive because of the racial hatred they've come to represent over the years... whether you think its fair that a seemingly innocent 4 letter word has been hijacked is irrelivent... In the UK paki is an offensive term.

    Language is forever evolving and as a result of this a word can seem innocent but have far more sinister conotations.

    it means that the word paki has been abused by racist british nationals... and because of the emotions it evokes it isnt adviable for a british caucasian to use it.

    but just because you have worked in some of the "best" bars in newcastle doesn't mean this kinda thing doesn't go on. i agree it's certainly not the best way to get yourself some extra cash, but they do try it.

    it's happened to me personally and also a lot of people i know. each time though we have stood there and waited for them to check the till. most times you find they just give you the money back and apologise, other's they do make you wait for the till to be checked (hoping you will just leave it!).

    either way though, why should they be let off with it?
