That's who I bank with- I'm owed about £2500 over the last 6 years- hopefully they'll pay up just as easily although I doubt it. Still, it's money i never had so even a partial payment would do me...

Just be warned, if you bank with Alliance and Leicester and try and claim money back in this way, they're going to close your account, and fight it every step of the way.

This was in the Mirror today

Don't have that attitude!! They have to pay you back, so make sure you persevere.

the tactic is to list every transcation that actually sent you over drawn and then for each of those write that it is the banks fault for authorising the transaction when the banking system was fully aware that there were insufficient funds in the account.

You wont get £2.5k back but you will get atleast £100 i reckon

if i was you say you will settle for £200

I sent mine through email on the website

no they dont, it is stated in your t&c's that if you go over your agreed limit then they can charge you £x

the only reason they give you them back is good will

i have been with First Direct for about 4 years and have a Credit card and savings account with them but i bet if i had had my account for 6 months and had nothing else with them then i would get nowt

but the T&C relating to charges aren't legal, that is the whole point of this campaign.

Why would banks refund thousands of pounds purely on good will?

The Office of Fair Trading has ruled that these charges are UNFAIR and against the law.

Why accept £200 when they have taken £2,500 from you?

    From fool.co.uk -

Under consumer credit laws default charges are only supposed to be used to recover certain limited administrative costs such as postage, stationery costs and staff costs as well as a proportionate share of the costs of maintaining premises and the necessary IT systems. But the OFT says consumers have being paying more than £300 million a year in 'unlawful' charges.

    Also see http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/surveyresults.php

to see how much people have claimed back from various banks.

Earl you are wonrg and shouldn't have settled for less. Even if they did send you a fancy box of wine.

I've just filed a claim in the small claims court tonight sueing Lloyds for £415.

Am still waiting for Smile to send me my last 6yrs worth of statements, but reckon the charges i'll claim back from them are gonna be over £1k.

Letter from my banks are on there way, had to hassle them a few times and pay £10 for the privillege.

But if I get all my charges back then it is more than worth it.
