As I said in an earlier post, yes! OK so not just in random streets, but places like outside schools. I mean like at the end of school when parents are waiting for their kids, they don't want to have smoke blowing in their face.

Maybe thats a long-shot, but my main one for outside is bus stops. When it's pissing it down outside and I'm waiting for the old reliable public transport to turn up, I don't want to have to stand inside a bus shelter with someone who's smoking. Or even if there isn't a shelter, they shouldn't stand waiting for a bus smoking!

There'd be other places too...on high streets, in city centres, erm, can't think of any more at the moment.

Bus stops are my main priority!

If the law states that there's no smoking in ANY bars/pubs in the country, then surely they won't lose much, if any, revenue? It's not like people will go "Oh I'll go to a different bar"...they'll go to their locals but take their smoke outside.

If I was the government I'd tell the bar/pub owners to go fuck themselves, for once the government is doing something that is going to make people healthier while losing money (less people smoke = less tax revenue from cigarettes). Good on the Irish govt.

Not all places you can go outside. This theory may work fine well for a "local" or pubs that have beer gardens, but you cant exactly walk out the front door of a town or city centre pub or bar and definately not out of a club. People will stop going to these places.

If the government tells them to fuck off then what is stoppin them suing to reclaim the money. It would be a lot harder but possible

Yes ban it. It's been reeeeaaally pising me off lately that i cant go shopping without dissapearing into a puff of smoke. It makes me sick anyway and especially now im pregnant.

I'm currently working on a respiratory ward and i wish school trips came here to see the terrible way smokers are dying....my patients have also said this would be a great idea!

I have told all of my smoking friends that when my baby is born they will not be allowed near it....wether they are smoking or not....they can come and visit my house but will be expected to shower and change into some of my clothes during the visit. My babies life and lungs have a choice.....dont care if people think im the most tight arsed mother in the world. I just dont understand people who smoke around babies and children....AND during pregnancy :spangled:

Thankfully i'm living in florida...and its banned anyway :D

:worship: Well done you! At least there's the few decent people who can actually do this. You're not being "tight arsed" you're simply being a good mother to your child! Tell people to go fuck themselves if they *do* think you're being a bit strict.

Lucky you're in Florida though, just watch for those hurricanes abd tornadoes

haha unique idea but they tend to be gender specific innit. I might do that if it's a boys name because i'm short of ideas for a boy :D

They have the names for the hurricanes each year lined up before they happen. Seeing as I'm bored out of my mind, a quick search on google found this years...

    2004
    Alex
    Bonnie
    Charley
    Danielle
    Earl
    Frances
    Gaston
    Hermine
    Ivan
    Jeanne
    Karl
    Lisa
    Matthew
    Nicole
    Otto
    Paula
    Richard
    Shary
    Tomas
    Virginie
    Walter

I'll have sympathy for you if you decide to name your baby after the hurricane if you then find yourself in the middle of "Hurricane Gaston"

I hate people smoking next to me, can't stand it tbh!!! I would say yes to banning it in public places, but can't honestly see it probably coming into force in the pubs and clubs in this country!

but that is a really small percentage of places - there would be a very limited ammount of places 'smoke free' for non-smokers to go.
