it might just be worth focusing on your fitness then mate, and then if you get back into football and a reasonable diet - i'm sure the excess couch baggage will do one.

at the same time, while your at the gym do a bit weight training, if you cut your carbs and up the protien i'm sure you'll develop a bit of muscle on your arms etc.

i also found resistance bands to be good while at home:

i normally did arm curls with one of them while reading up stuff for college  good cardio/tone values

13.5/14st @ 6"1' is far from fat cunt territory, so you should be able to get into shape pretty quickly!

Two things I will say about you is that:

1- You dont reply to text messages.
2 - You dont turn up to the greatest parties on this Island we call North Tyneside.

yes. doing cv before weights will exhaust supplies of muscle glycogen, therefore being detrimental to weight training

Yeah but I've always been told by my coaches that you shouldn't really mix both into a session anyway but if we did we should do cv then weights. We had it drummed into us that the anabolic effect due to weight training would be counteracted if I do cardio after due to the lack of fuel which would have a catabolic effect on the muscles which were trying to repair after the weight work. Just seems silly to me to divert blood and nutrients away from muscles in their vital stage of repair.

Yeah you could just do that and get a little set of dumbells and an exercise ball to use at home if you don't want to pay for a gym. There's hundreds of little exercises you can do with them.

in theory you should train cv and weights on different days, but this is not always possible.

your ability to recover is more based on what happens in the 24 hours after the workout than the workout itself. even if your body is using protein during exercise, your muscle tissue breaks down during intense training, and then it is a question of whether there is sufficient protein available to repair it. This repair happens after the you finish exercising.

Generally I would agree, but it depends on goals.

Currently my routine is based on cutting - i'm not training for more mass at the minute so my weights sessions are more cardio focussed; circuit training, quick sets of 12 reps. Work hard, get a proper sweat on, but i'm not lifting at my usual intensity so effect on muscle glycogen will be significantly reduced. After that I head downstairs for around 25 mins of moderate intensity cardio on the crosstrainer.

If I was bulking, I wouldn't be doing any cardio at the same time as a weights session. Instead i'd be in the sauna necking shakes...a nice concoction of whey, dextrose, creatine and l-glutamine. Winner.

I heard an interesting way of going about it from one of the guy's in my old gym:

Billy bob the Beer Boy's 'Get Cut Quick Scheme':

    An Ounce of amphetamine
    200 Ephy's
    Sustanol
    Dianabol
Loads of free weights and a sqaut frame
an ipod filled only with happy hardcore
    a treadmill

he didnt die either!
