    One guy has had a 19sec 1mb Superpi with a overclocked Yonah core (2.6 - 3Ghz..)

And over at xtreme systems they have managed to clock a conroe sample to 4.53Ghz.. this resulted in a world record 1mb superpi time of.. 11.26Secs!

    This can be found here..

Bare in mind that my overclocked Opteron 170 (dual core, 2.5Ghz and 2Mb Cache) managed a 1mb Superpi in ~26 seconds.

This core is gonna be fast..

Just wait for kentfield.. out later this year.. quad-core..
And AMD also apparently have a 8-core chip in the works for release next year..

I'm soooo close to ordering one..
Thing is though that I'd need a new mb.. that'd cost around £150/£170
Then 2GB DDR2 ram would cost over £200.

Then a new gfx card would cost in the region of £200 - £300.
If I go sli it would be worse.
    And another raptor.. £125..

That'd mean it would cost in the region of £700 (£900 if I went sli.. but then I'd also need a new psu so probs £1k.)

I think I'll leave it for a bit

i tend to steer clear of new technology untill it has been around a couple of years therefore you avoid bugs

these chips will only benefit if u play games on your system anyway

na they'll do everything, encoding audio and video in have the time of todays standard stuff. if you do chose a new processor your best off getting a dual core one that supports 64bit

The conroe's are all round good processors.
Granted they excel at multimedia tasks (encoding and gaming performance in particular) but they offer incredible performance increases.

This is the first time in ~ 15 years that Intel has dropped the Pentium tag from a processor..
And the first time they have completed designed a new core from scratch..

However.. unfortunately trying to keep up with techy advances is expensive..
I've already blown ~£400 this year on processors.. and now I'm looking at getting another for £250..

    I wish I could stop :(
