I smoke when i drink though, so im not anti smoking and i dont despise smokers Id just rather not stink of smoke when i get home from work, i quite like going outside for a fag aswell.

Theres no way this will ever happen..people love drinking too much. I couldnt stop drinking even if i tried. Drug users are looked down upon socially by a lot of people and its illegal but it doesnt stop people from going out and doing it..

You're having a laugh aren't you? Are you telling me that 15 years ago, everyone who was a non-smoker didn't have any problem with breating in smoke all night?

Have we all just suddenly been brainwashed into thinking that tab smoke is fucking disgusting? I've had the same opinion for nearly 24 years.

I think the main thing is, it now allows non-smokers, to remain non-smokers, whereas someone who doesn't drink can still remain a non-drinker even if everyone else around them is swigging down 20 pints in 5 hours.

Smoking also makes you lose track of time. A smoker in the workplace will often say "Is it okay if I nip out for 5 minutes for a smoke before you go for your dinner break" & 10 sometimes 15 mins later they are not back.

Happy hours just mean people can afford to go out and get drunk in town.. otherwise they will resort to getting drunk at home/parties. The simple fact is that we love getting pissed. There is too much faith in advertising

yeah they will get drunk at home thats exactly what will happen. instead of pubs getting busy at half eight they wont get busy till half ten.

this will tho have a knock on effect to the number of bodys in the gutters later as some wont bother even going out after a good drink

Don't people do this already? Whenever I'm off on a ight out, we always start off with drinks at someones house/flat beforehand.. It's just a money saving technique when we goto happy hours after that.. not so much to 'get extra drunk'. Those measures are already put in place before leaving the house.

I don't smoke and don't drink much. I don't like smelling onions from burger vans or Diesel exhausts (diesel is at least as dangerous as secondhand smoke) but because we aint had a sustained 30 year campaign against them nobody moans about it.
you all think you arrived at your opinions about smoking independently but you have been 'educated' by the anti fun league into thinking like that. Christ I can remember going to see the doctor and both of us having a tab in the consulting room. Everybody smoked. they said it would never be banned cos people loved it too much, and the government needed the tax - just like you now say about beer.
I know you won't believe me on this one but I'm sure it's true.

It's already frowned on to drink at lunchtime even college lecturers don't do that much any more. Ours used to be pissed most afternoons and everybody was quite calm about it.
drink is just starting to be demonised.

Where are people allowed to get their opinions from without you accusing them of being variously brainwashed, indoctrinated, 'educated' or mislead by the government/establishment/anti-fun league/system/Man?

I reckon the government like's pushing alcohol on us as a way of mass self medication and control. It lets the masses forget about their lives and makes them happier for a few hours each week and makes us identify our enemies and problems (and therefore what our government has got to do to about it) better over a pint down the pub.

Personal experience, a wide variety of media not just the british tabloid press, travel, talk to people, see other cultures, listen to those who the powers that be try to suppress. Be sceptical about what those with 'common sense' tell you is true. Don't believe the hype. Don't accept received opinions, learn to think for yourself. And don't be certain. I know my opinions are formed by my experiences in life and that they will probably be only half right. But I do like a good argument, and I don't think much of most of your opinions either
