    Rite...

I knew they would need my IP (obviously) and have to find an open port on my machine. However, I though that I would have to have a Trojan or something on my PC for them to be able to get onto it... Yes/No?

Can they get on without that?

Sorry for going on but I find it quite interesting! :)

Trojans help and make it easy - correct.

BUT - you can get onto someones PC if they have been careless with the way they setup windows networking.

For example, if someone has enabled File/Printer sharing on the TCP/IP protocol used to connect to the internet then they have pretty much granted the whole world access to their machine!!!

It aint just ppl with trojans/virii that are vunerable, careless ppl are too!

And lazy ppl also who cant be bothered to secure properly! ( I fall into this catagory most of time!! :p)

    Are u mad?

The only people to randomly target pc's are script kiddies.... Now very few people have sub7, bo, etc. installed on their box - nerds tend to know about and most commoners have virus checkers....

A script kiddie can do no harm without sub7 and the likes....

from a hostname you'd be suprised how easy it is to get someones address.

ISP's maiunframe computer? wtf u talking about all u need to do is get the persons name, and that is often readily available once u have the host.

Bri have u ever actually done this?

To find a backdoor isn't an instant thing it can take days... most dial-up's disconnect after an hour or so.

sub7 and the likes isn't hacking its annoying and easy.

They don't exploit any vunerability they merely are applications to allow u to remotely access a pc... fuck all to do with hack.

They come in 2 parts, u install 1 half on the victims pc and it allows you to access that pc via the second half.

Hacking is something completely different... To hack into someones computer is time consuming, boring tedius and sad :D

Aye but they target home users who are unaware of the dangers of running exe's that are wrapped with trojans etc...

They are easy targets if they dont know.

You dont need Sub7 etc either....it GREATLY helps but there are other ways into systems.....thru badly configured windows networking for example....

Obviously a dont know how often this happens but i would hazard a guess at lots....

    The internet is massive remember.......

    So...

I install the Sub7/BO server on victims PC and I run the client from mine. Without the server on victims its pointless?

(All hypothetical - Of course. Must make me asd! :p But Im interested.... keep it coming dudes!)

Anyway... finishing work now so will check out reply when get home.

debatable... many ethical hackers consider themselves crackers... but the masses now refer to them as hackers and consider software hackers crackers :p

    Ive done it yeah.

U can scan for open ports in a matter of minutes.

There is masses of information available on vunrabilities of all kinds of software.

Youre right tho, it can take days, but can also only take minutes.

If you can find open ports, you can find an exploit.

They're readily available with a bit of trawling.....

completely (unless some1 has previously installed it there).

Its like trying to open a door with a key when the door doesn't exist.

Most home pc's don't run networks... we're talking about stand alone pc's - most of these come with virus scanners as standard now, most email clients (take hotmail) now run virus scanners as well as downloadable programs like kazaa running scanners.

Most trojans are now detectable and the ones that aren't tend to be used by folks in the know as opposed to script kiddies who have no desire to hack into a home pc.
