Naff all to do with ViM/Telewest, it's Sky that ripping everyone off.

The Branson/murdoch war is on, and sky know that VM is a serious threat to them now. Sky wanted to charge an extra 3p per VM customer per day. That might not seem much for the channels that they have took off, but do your sums on how many cable customers their is and it will come to £36million pound a year. Also that 3p per customer per day was what they brought it down to, so it was obviously more than that to start off with.

That would be harsh on passing this onto the customers.

Virgin has the upper hand anyway. They have the Video on demand that sky doesnt have, and wont have. Yes Sky has a fancy Sky+ box, but work out the charges that you pay the privilege of owning one of these boxes.

Then theres the Cable internet which kicks ass compared to ADSL.If you want to go with Sky you have to put up with a new system and bad tech support, along with having a BT line installed in your home for something like £100, top it off by paying BT a line rental and then Sky an additional charge for your Broadband that is run on pre-historic Bt copper cables that were only meant to be for Telephone conversations, not High speed internet.

Iam with Virgin all the way, Sky can suck my balls.

Look at the adds below.Says it all.Sky think they will get loads of new customers just because they have dropped Sky channels.

but that what if you want sky1? Loads of people only pay for sky for the channels and get their broadband elsewhere. Same for telewest customers.

What you going to miss on sky one? The simpsons, lost, 24, all of which you and i will download if need be...I really dont think people are going to change provider. It really isnt the hassle, letting an engineer into your home while you book a day off work to let him come and take your cable box away..Fart on phoning sky booking another day off work, having another engineer come into your house to put up a sky dish..Sky are not going to win in this race!!

Is all of the above really necessary just so you can still watch one two or three shows. If people are that bothered about the three main shows, they will wait and buy the DVD instead of going through all that shit.

    Go branson fuck Murdoch

The only thing i will be missing is Sky sports news for the footy, but hey, i can get the scores somewhere else.

Some pics below of what i took yesterday.Virgin having a good sniggle at Sky. First one is Sky sports news, second one is Sky news

hmm.. I'm not quite sure what the deal is with installations etc but it's not really a massive deal. Some people can't get cable in their area, others already have sky and are happy with it like me and see no reason to change over to virgin. You're quite wrong in assuming the majority of people will be downloading shows instead of watching them on sky 1.

and even if they did there'd still be tons who'd prefer to sit infront of their tv at the same time each week with their gf or whatever instead of watching it on a pc, or having to convert it to dvd.

The point i was making was that people are not going to switch providers for the sake of one channel, Did people only get sky installed to watch lost on sky one when they nabbed it off channel 4? NO

somewhat of a biased view there i see  Both are blaming eachother - Sky deny this 3p business.

As for Sky+ - what are theses costs you mention? There is a one off charge for the box....that's it.

As for their internet service, you can't blame Sky for the age of copper cables, nor can you use that against them. Yes, granted, they were installed for voice but it handles internet just fine.....and how many people do you know that don't have a BT line?! Sky also offer a free broadband service for lighter users.

The only real benefit of Cable over ADSL is that it is not susceptible to the attenuation that is inherent in ADSL. If you live within a reasonable distance from the exchange then the difference will be negligible. I have a 6mbit connection on ADSL which has increased from 512k over the last few years - and they arn't done yet.

Oh and Cable/Virgin Media is not even accessible to all so I cant see how they can possibly "win" this "race"

Sky are now also offering TV/Phone/Broadband for £26 a month which is pretty good IMO.

    Next argument?

(and dont dare say the rain knocks out your sky, i've had it nearly 2 years and only once have i lost signal, for about 1 minute, during a fairly terrific thunderstorm)

Ha ha, nice reply until you put a childish image at the bottom.Nice to see people contributing to a board that makes it look childish.

I'm glad someone is giving another opinion, this is how good threads start, but you've just killed it with your 'OWNED' image.

He rang em up and says he watches Lost and 24 all the time, and hes thinking of cancelling with virgin, he pays for a shit package with no extra channels...

they said he could have full package, exc sports and movies... a new v+box for free for 7month. then 10 quid after that.
