Prog is great so yas can all shuddup now. :p And Lee Burridge is fucking great - i had one of my best ever Promise nights when he played last August.

Shindig hardly ever book proggy djs. The vast majority of their djs fall into the funky house/ vocal house /soulful house/ us house type of categories and i dont like that sort of thing. They only book a true prog dj about once every 7 or 8 weeks, and even then i dont usually go cos the crowd is shit and i get really annoyed with it all and have a crap time.

So i need these proggy warm ups at Promise to get my fix. Fair enough if the club was hardly ever full when prog djs were on all night, then i cant expect that sort of night to be put on. Promise is a business after all. But there is nowhere else in Newcastle for me to go and hear the likes of Burridge/ Richards/ Pappa/ Fortier/ Klienenberg/ Seaman/ Warren/ Graham. So i am happy to accept the compromise of having them on early as a warm-up. :)

I do like trance and hard trance but i wouldnt want Promise to become an exclusively trance club at all. There arent a huge number of us but i dont think i would go as much if we cut out the proggy warm-ups. Promise is doing very well as it is and i think the balance is right, so why change it? :)

I think progressive is the warmup music for any night, but I think more than 2 hours pisses most people off, wherever you are. Only die hard prog fans can go mad to a whole night of progressive. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say it gets bloody boring after a while.

Trance is all about buildups and breakdowns. Breakdowns for a breather and then bam, you're hit with the buildup and the melody. All that hands in the air sorta stuff.

Techno, Hard House and Hard Trance try to keep a thumping volume pretty much relentlessly. Those that want breathers can stop, but you needn't wait for a thumping bassline, it's always there.

But progressive is neither thumping nor 'trancey' in the classic sense. As it's name suggests, it's the type of music which anticipates an eventual buildup, a big bang, something to look forward to. When you have to wait four bloody hours for that to happen, all but the hardcore prog fans start to get annoyed.

I love hearing progressive at the start of the night, in a way it holds me in a suspense for big things to come. It gradually picks up pace, and gets me in the mood. But come midnight, I seriously want to move on.

there shud be a place 4 both prog and trance at promise.
i wud be absolutely gutted if promise becomes a solely hard house club, i never wanna c the tidy boys or lisa lashes, cos i dont like hh at all.
the club needs the variety each week, cos it wud be boring otherwise.there is defo a place 4 prog, i mean how gud was dave seaman on fri?everytime ive ive seen him at promise hes headlined, and id love to c him do it again;)

i reckon trance is wickd but so is prog - i love it when you get dj's who do both in the same go (prog trance?)... the trance takes the edge off the prog and gives it a kinda.... release...

if you dont get my babble check out sasha's 014 GU cd esp bedrocks "heaven scent" (piu' -techno harmony:confused: ) very prog then rips into a wave of first class trance... amazin even in yer kitchen!

nick warren has a habit of makin prog more appealing2, intensify was pure quality...

slam are arsespankingly ace too! :D
