the picture that was being used earlier in the post is by far and away the best space in and around hoults yard, totally unbelievable space and architecture, i nearly spunked in my pants when i saw it.

I was shown it by charlie himself when I looked at the think tank and building 34 as potential venues for my 900th birthday party back in march.

however, and its a BIG however, that immense space and the think tank are not sound proofed to any great degree (well they werent when i looked at them) which means any one doing events in the those spaces would be seriously limited by what they can do and the hours they can run due to the proximity of the local residents.

building 34 has got sound proofing but is by far the least interesting of those 3 spaces and its only really like one room.

i "love" how in newcastle people discover what is perceived to be a hidden gem just for all unsundry to jump on the proverbial bandwagon and then want to reinvent the original idea and pass it off as their own.

in my case i just wanted a space to put on a birthday party, unpromoted, unflyered, unpostered as I wouldnt have wanted to step on HABIT'S toes, however in many other cases the floodgates are now about to be well and truely opened and you will have all manner of nights - mostly probably rah student "r and b" events that profess to be newcastles answer to manchester's warehouse parties that tell us they are the next big thing when in reality they arent. Ultimately it will ruin the vibe of what is currently a unique "little" clubbing space.

The thing is that the best warehouse parties are the ones that are completely under the radar and thats the whole beauty of them - no one is supposed to know about them, to be honest I dont think warhouse parties were ever meant to be packaged in a corporate kind of way , that was the whole point of it, people had broke into the place to put on the party in the first place as a reaction to not being allowed to put the parties on outdoors or in other places. I am sure when people were originally organising the parties and inventing the music 20 odd years ago it wasn't their intention for it to be mass advertised in this way.

seriously there is nothing that beats the vibe and adrenalin rush of an illegal / semi legal event.

Aren't people just going through the motions with these things anyways.

Hardly illegal 'underground' things, when there is a fairly porky ticket charge, the DJ's all have press packs, and the kids are all decked out in the latest high street and current sub culture friendly outfits.

Not to say that these things arent good, and i'm really looking forward to going to the next Jaunt/Habit one that i can make it up for ...... but aint it just a trendy fashionable 'fad' at the moment, that is just a cursory nod to a time when it actually was about people 'in the know' and not all over facebook/twitter/myspace etc etc.

    What the fuck is "Tech"

Keep on hearing the term from students.

Some little (admittedly fit) student bint came up to Foss on Saturday and said "I like what you're playing, but could you play more tech?"

His answer was quite forthright, ie

    "FUCK OFF!"

Just don't go then go to the nights there you will enjoy. You don't slag off a cinema for playing films you would not go to see. Remember Habit have ran some cracking parties in W34 already. Just avoid the nights you don't like. Easy as that!

Nothing's sacred. Everything that starts off good in this city gets fucked up the arse by that know-it-all student crowd eventually.
