Was a canny night, very busy, makes it better imo. Was canny hot, but it doesn't really bother me for some reason.

Norman was a bit boring at first, livened up though, and he will always be in my heart for playing The Legacy!:D   :king:

Eddie was Eddie I suppose, doesn't get me going anymore like he used to, I think it's cause I don't really like that GG style anymore tbh. Very random, like everyone else says, but he's still loved by lots of people. I think he's a bit like Scot Project, in a way that the first few times you here that style it's mint, totally different from what your used to, but after a while you just get sick of it.

Geilen was ok, probably danced to him the most tbh, glad I left before he played Operation Blade though!''shakes head''

Drank about 2 litres of water when I got in, had 8 hours sleep, and I was fine in the morning!:D :king: :p

Were you lot in the same club as me?

Norman was terribly poor, just because he played a couple of decent tunes doesn't change the fact, particulary as they are years old.

He looked nervous and his poor mixing and poor tune selection would back this up, it was like seeing a bedroom dj panic as he realised he wasn't doing well and started dropping big tunes. I honestly can't remember a single decent mix, and a 2 hour set surely commands 100x more strucutre and build than he gave.

Respect to Halliwell for getting where he is today, but as he has always relied on the same tricks, and big tunes rather than a good all-round show, people have inevitably become sick of him, and as usually the charver population has just caught on, which means there is always a good atmosphere when he is on, and of course a packed club.

I know that mixing and set structure are not the most important aspects of a good night for everyone, but I think they should be

To be honest I thought Mark Normans set was good but I deffo agree about the DJing bit, I wouldnt say he was of Promise standard, loads of DJ's on this board are much better. It's all about who is going to draw the crowds though ofc. Still enjoyed his set tho.

Thougt I best let someone else say that first though

I didn't mind that his mixing wasn't on par to be honest, I'd just class him as a kinda Judge Jules with better tune selection. Mark Norman's set was blinding IMO, it got everyone interested and he played alot of his own stuff which is always superb!
The first part of Eddies set wasn't bad at all when he was playing techno then it went downhill rapidly.
Luke was class upstairs and I never saw Johan:( because I went home early.
Not a bad night at all, a busy night for Promise and some good tunes played!

I know he played a lot of his own productions, but why???

Granted if they were all pretty recent then it would be ok, but that's the problem with producers turned poor-DJs, you might as well stay in the house and listen to their back catalogue.

I DJ only in a host of bedrooms but I know that the only tunes in my bag are brand new, maybe the odd classic for times when they are needed (or when i'm struggling:p ) but I don't get those people that play tunes from the past 2/3 years all the time.

No way bud it aint like that at all! It comes back to structure...it doesnt matter if you play a majority of old or new tracks, its how you fit it all together that does it! I wouldnt say you play classics because you are struggling! Agreed a whole set can not be devised completely of either tho!

Djs will always play alot of their own productions, the question aint 'but why?' its why not?

Of course new tunes make a difference, the reason i pay £££ to see djs play is to see some fresh new talent and tunes. The reason every label under the sun sends them tunes is so they play them, not to fill the box up.

If a producer turned dj is just going to badly mix together sets mostly compromised of his own tunes from over the years then surely no1 will want to see him more than once, because he will just play the same again. This happened a lot with Ferry Corsten etc at Gatecrasher and it was just very boring, but obviously Ferry has turned it around as he was tremendous at Promise.

I wouldnt say Norman was the worst dj to play Promise but he was pretty bad imo, he might have got a few punters in, and played a few good tunes, but surely there should be more to it than that
