It would be a good idea if they got rid of road tax and had this instead.

Not really for you since the driving you do on the motorway. Altho youre only here a few more months. But then you have the drive home to do. You'd get shafted

I do about 10,000 miles a year which is pretty average. They should set the cost so that if you do average miles then you pay roughly the same as it is at the minute. Then people who do loads of driving pay more.

I thought when this was introduced you got charged more for using motorways. Well thats what you use mostly. I dunno. I'd rather stick with my road tax than have a gamble as to how much Im going to pay each time

I don't believe a word of this. Sorry, but adding potentially £200 on top of peoples bills just so they can drive their car to work n back is fucking stupid.

There would have to be such a superior public transport invented to cater for all the people who couldn't afford to drive their cars.

This system already failing in trials in America isn't it?

A better idea would be to make every motorway a toll road. You could charge to use them, making money, but also time stamp tickets so toll booths at the other end could work out if you'd been speeding. Get rid of speed cameras and not have to use big brother type gps tracking.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!! in that order! sorry Will but do you not think that the motorist is hammered enough???? fuck toll roads, all that will happen is mass's of peep's driving on country roads to avoid paying them.Your three times as likely to die in a rural accident than on surface or motorway roads. Now just imagine if you increase the traffic on these roads by 50/70%, most HGV would stick to motorways as time is money and most prob they're company would be paying the charge! so think who would avoid it young inexperienced drivers single mum's low income families and tight wad rep's all fighting to get places quicker cos it takes longer not using motorways. all this would do is cause chaos on our b-road networks and more people would die !!!!! FACT ! this government thinks the way to get people to do what they want is to price people out of it Planes for example the other month they decide too many people are travelling by air , what do they do ? put up air fair by levying fuel sup's Trains just yesterday all train fair's go up !! one as high as 33% they are taking the piss !!!! now on to cars !!! for years they have been raping the motorist with tax ! they need extra dollar for this that , I know another penny on fuel duty will do the trick. now for every 96.9 pence litre of petrol I buy 73.5ish pence go's to the fat cunt Brown add to this the £155 a year on road fund licence. I do a little more than average at about 15.000 miles a year I get about 300 miles out of a full tank @ £40 so roughly I pay around two grand a year on petrol so nearly £1500 maybe more of that go's to the treasury . so all in all that's £1655 + of my money A YEAR ! is paid in road tax

FUCK TOLL ROADS I PAY ENOUGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If they sorted out the public transport system I'd be all for this, for environmental reasons. However, while they are cutting down services in rural areas, increasing train fares to ease overcrowding etc, it won't work.

The rail link between London and Scotland (the East Coast route anyway) is probably the fastest in the country. You should try getting from Cardiff to Newcastle (roughly the same distance, takes twice as long).

The rail fares are ridiculous, and there clearly aren't enough trains. When it costs more to go by train than by car there is something wrong with the transport model as a whole. The only reason people go by train between Newcastle and London is because it is quicker than driving.

I personally think public transport (in London anyway) is really good, people seem to take it for granted and knock it at any given opportunity.

it costs me £15 a week for my travel card and i have to get 2 trains and 4 buses everyday for work..proper bargain

Within London it is great, though it is one of the most expensive systems in the world. It's travelling between cities, and in rural areas, that's the problem.
