I went there in march 2001.. awesome place!

I'm going back over next year.. probs between march and June..

I stayed in the beacon hotel on 72nd street. Was outta the way a bit but a quick 15 min walk through central park got ya straight to 5th avenue.. which was expensive (not in the proces but in the amount I spent!)

Make sure you take LOTS of cash.. I spent bout 1750 in 5 days..

i lived there for nearly 5 months... u can have my rough guide thingy... its a year and a bit out of date but it did me well in a few nightmare situations..

best place to stay is one of the smaller hotels in uptown on the east or west of central park, then get the subway to mid/downtown where most of the things to see are.. metrocards cost next to nothing.. the subway in new york is brilliant cheap, fast and it goes virtually everywhere..

or you could always try and look for theinfamous 'chelsea star' (which i swear is non existant) where sid vicious got arrested for attempted murder on his missus.. brid will know what i mean

think brid would also agree with me when i say do it in a hostel rather than some souless hotel- without sounding pretentious or even 'gay' it really lets you immerse yourself in the city more, the people, the atmosphere, the hustle & bustle and get a far better idea of what the city is about..

museum of modern art/ guggenhiem/ lower east side - orchard st/ un building/ staten island/ south street seaport/ bronx walks are a few things id deffo rec you to see aside the obvious..

walking round is the best way to do it though so considering manhattan alone is about 45km north - south i hope youve got your walking feet on :D

easily the best thing though are the hundreds of pizza delis  :D
