Is starting a small night for standard genres worth it any more?

forks detox plays tech, trance, techno, psy, techno hard dance, hardtsyle in the main room

in the old skool room theres house, techno, acid, old school etc etc....

the only thing not being played is drum and base and elevator electro music

A dj doesnt have to play across the styles the events just have to be programmed to flow

the problem arises when djs who are put on early to warm up bosh it out peak time music playing to themselves ...there aint many djs who have the ability to warm an event up

Hardcore nights got harder & faster. The masses went through there paces from QFX to Lenny Dee & then fall out.

Trance nights got harder & faster. The masses went through there paces from Delerium to S.H.O.K.K & then fall out.

Hard House nights got harder & faster. The masses went through there paces from Rob Tissera to Paul Glazby then fall out.

"Genre nights"go along with the vibe of there crowd & what they want & basically end up getting screwed over by the same crowd, it is just the way it works. Promoters should not listen to its punters best go down doing it there way imo, as one day they think they are giving there crowd what they want only to realise that same crowd have fucking done on.

just re-reading the thread and i think i missed this one earlier. but in terms of local djs getting themselves gigs more and more in newcastle and the north east these days there is a definate culture developing of djs getting booked merely on the basis of how many mates they bring to an event and how many tickets they sell rather than just musical ability and it tends to be the "smaller" events that are stuck in this cycle and it all stems back to wanting to fill a venue. But quickly you end up seeing the same local djs over and over at every event going, that makes the scene boring for a particular style and then numbers drift away. You wont hear the local dj complaining cos they are getting gigs coming out of their ears but within 6 months those local dj's whoever they may be have fucked their fledgling "careers" by playing out far too much in the same city to the point of oversaturation and the "bookings" dry up as people have got bored and other punters realise that beyond that djs mates not many people are really digging them. I could name a list of people it's happened to and also other people it will undoubtedly happen to again but it would cause major rucks and I cant be arsed with that quite frankly. Thing is when you try to give people advice they snarl at you as if you are trying to fuck them over. Newcastle !!???? such a unique city.

We are planning on coming back most definitely. Got some interesting developments in planning :)

As for the original topic - i think a lot of promoters want to blow up massive to quickly and stroke egos / make money rather than just doing it for the love of music. I Think some nights in town at the minute are really uncreative with bookings to and at the end of the day it'll just end up in demise.
