not neccessarily i like all techno tunes, but if your into techno you will know that coxy mixing them fast on 3 decks sounds better than me on my two decks with the same tunes. Techno is meant for skilled Djs and these Djs push the tunes to their full potential.

Yeah I agree, he's talkin about one type of techno, but raises a fair point about it I think. The looped stuff isn't neccessarily bad music, its just theres more onus on the DJ, and their respective skills, to make it a lot more interesting to the ear.

Clarke being a good example, a lot of the stuff he plays in a techno set, if all played from start to finish, would be boring as hell, but he uses his skills to ridioculously good effect and makes it all a rather riotous experience, from what I've seen in the bugged out courtyard!

I'm talking about all of Techno, every possible sub-genre you can think of. My point is, there is alot more to Techno than the looped up stuff we've been discussing here.

Btw - if your after a DJ with SERIOUS technical ability, try Claude Young.

Thats true, a lot of people think techno = banging computerized loops.

I'm no expert, but I'd guess listenin to Rolando's nite;life mix would be a good start, WHAT a mix that is

Good point. There is a bigger onus on the DJ to do something more because the tracks themselves don't do much.

Trouble is, alot of DJs (maybe most) who play this stuff DON'T do anything to make it more interesting, which leads us back to the soulless loop comment...

Yeah, Rolando is a great example of a DJ who uses 3 decks and doesn't play loop-based stuff. Played with him earlier this year and was proper blown away.

He done a mix for our radio show if ya want a copy...

    Was the alarm going off?

Alarm sirens with washing machine noises would have made him think he was at a Chemical Brothers gig.

Cue another 9 pages of chemical brothers debating.

They get my vote, most of the time

Don't like their more rocky stuff though

As was their Brothers Gonna Work It Out mix, for the most part.

Been picking up tracks from those mixes for years. Some proper stuff on there.
